Aug 12, 2018 - Leavenworth WA – Leavenworth RV Campground

Quick overnight here in Leavenworth. It’s another Thousand Trails park. Same issues as the first one – minus the yellow jackets. The roads were kind of tight and hard to navigate, no sewer and irregular site sizes. No problem. We found a good spot anyway and Roger was able to get us backed in. Got a good night’s sleep before heading for the Canadian border.

Aug 3, 2018 - Lake Wenatchee State Park, WA

August 3 - 6 This is a beautiful park located right on Lake Wenatchee River and Lake. We had a nice pull through site with a view of the forest. The weather was nice and we enjoyed daily walks to the river and lake. There was a ban on any kind of fire so we didn't get to have a campfire or BBQ. We played cards outside under the trees. It was a fun time.

May 15, 2018 - Icicle Gorge Hike

We decided to hike the Icicle Gorge Trail while we were in the area, and we're glad we did! It's rated as an easy 4.5 mile hike with little elevation change. The trail loops around both sides of Icicle River with a number of small to large sized bridges to cross streams and the Icicle River. It's an incredibly beautiful trail that winds through a variety of forest types and open areas that provide beautiful views of the river, gorge and mountains. The recent warm temperatures has created a lot of snow melt in the mountains so the river and...

May 14, 2018 - Road Trip to Sugarloaf Mountain Lookout

We went for a drive Sunday with a goal of making it up to Sugerloaf Mountain fire lookout. Sugarloaf was first used for fire detection in 1914, Sugarloaf has had a long history. The first station was a camp. In 1924, a D-6 cupola cabin was added. This was replaced in 1949 with the present L-4 cab, which was moved from Lion Rock, where it had been built in 1932. The lookout was threatened by the Tyee fire in 1994. While the cab survived, the outhouse didn't. The lookout is on the National Historic Lookout Register, and is staffed every...

Jun 28, 2017 - Checking out Leavenworth

Leavenworth is located in Chelan County. It is at the base of the Cascade Mountains, very near the geographical center of Washington State. It is famous for its charming Bavarian theme in an Alps-like setting. The town's elevation is about 1,166 feet, with mountains rising 5,000-8,000 feet nearby. Reminds me a little of Solvang in Ca.

May 13, 2017 - Leavenworth, WA

While talking to another traveler in Anacortes he told us about the village of Leavenworth located in the Cascade mountains. The village was a Bavarian village and in the mountains it was supposed to replicate the Alps. We decided that we would travel in that direction as we start our southward route. Driving through the mountains in Stevens Pass drove into a heavy snow storm. I had to pull to the side of the road and figure out how to get the defroster and mirror warmer. The village was having their Maypole festival and boy, did they do it...

Sep 5, 2016 - Day 1

We arrived in Leavenworth, last night around 6:30. We are staying at Mrs. Anderson's Lodging House. I stayed here about 8 years ago with my sister and mother. I love the place! It is a place people love or hate; there doesn't appear to be an in-between. It is old, built in 1907, and decorated with old quilts and vintage clothing. Believe it or not, it has a quilt store attached. As you may guess we will be visiting quilt stores along the way. We had dinner with Phil Keeley last night. He made a delightful meal that included Chicken...

Aug 11, 2016 - Leavenworth, WA

What a wonderful stop this was. Leavenworth only has a population of about 2,000 but we enjoyed our time here. The drive from Anacortes took us through the Cascade Mountains which were beautiful. We had a little bit of a challenge finding our RV Park since our navigation system wanted to take us on a little detour. We found it though and it is a great park about 3 miles from Leavenworth, tucked back in the hills along the Wenatchee River, surrounded by high mountains. The community has a Bavarian theme so when you drive into the downtown...

Sep 3, 2015 - Leavenworth, WA – Icicle RV Resort

9/3 – 9/5/15 Time to pack up and leave the “Green” of Mt. Rainier National Park. It took us 1 hour to get to the Ohanapecosh (east) entrance, leaving camp a 10 am. There was no traffic and the drive took us east where we saw several lakes and a few more waterfalls. Then it was onto Hwy 123 heading for Leavenworth, WA. Once we were on Hwy 123, the scenery changed quite dramatically to high desert…lots of brown hills with very little trees. We then took the scenic drive on Hwy 97 north. The dam at the Tieton River had just opened one of...

Oct 16, 2014 - Leavanworth, WA

Leavanworth is only an hour away from Chelan. We were only going to stop in this German Bavarian town for lunch. Friends back home told us about Leavanworth. Our son had a Gift Certificate birthday surprise waiting at 'Good Mood Food.'. Unfortunately [for us] the town was about to start the last weekend of Oktoberfest. Reasonable rates in the Fairbridge Inn.. $89 Thursday becomes $236 on weekend. That deal plus the smell of Weinerschnitzell, Sauerkraut, and Bratwurst just pulled us in like fish on a line. If we were beer drinkers it would...
