Oct 22, 2012 - La Conner-Burlington WA

October 20, 2012 Cool morning that is threatening rain but the sun is peaking out. We walked into and around town but nothing but the grocery store was open before 10:00. Lots of art galleries, gift shops, La Conner Brewery and the Rainbow Bridge which connects La Conner to Fidalgo Island. La Conner faces the Swinomish Indian reservation across the Swinomish Channel . There we saw some interesting “lop sided hat” topped shelter-looking structures. Not sure what they were! We met Rick Bolduc, a fellow Rotarian, in Sonoma a few years ago....

Oct 19, 2012 - Anacortes to La Conner, WA

October 19, 2012 Since this camp has such good laundry and bath facilities, we washed everything but the rig! At ledast three days of rain predicted. Hit the Burlington Costco for lunch, wine and a few groceries. From there we headed up State Route 11, Chuckanut Drive that winds through evergreens and colorful deciduous trees along the Samish Bay shoreline. We had a map that provided viewpoints and activities every mile. We first drove through potato fields and through very small towns with antiques and collectible shops. Other than geese,...

Aug 24, 2012 - La Conner, Washington

We walked around La Conner, ate a wonderful meal on the deck of a waterside cafe, we watched a float plane take off over the Rainbow bridge (only bridge in Washington that is orange not green). The view from the community center in Thousand Trails RV Park is beautiful.

May 24, 2012 - Up into Washington

In hopes of escaping the memorial day crowds, we headed up to La Conner, Washington for the next week. We had hoped to stop in Astoria for a couple of hours, but the town was not motorhome friendly (very thankful for Steve's ability to get the rig through tough spots!)We spent one night in Chehallis, very nice place, then finished the trip north. The La Conner campground was busier than we like for the weekend, it was tolerable, and emptied out nicely by Monday afternoon. The area was beautiful, and we finally had sun again! We spent some...

Sep 14, 2011 - Quiet Day

Quiet day today. I think we were exhausted from the last few weeks and just spent the day around the house. John went for a swim, I stayed back and read. Did have an interesting neighbor today. They had a large 36' 5th wheel and were trying to park it next to us. She was directing him with the craziest hand signals I have ever seen, swirling her arms around, then leaning forward like she was going to push the 5th wheel with both of her arms. She would run over to the other side where he could not see her, and scream at him and of course, he...

Sep 13, 2011 - 2nd day in La Conner

Got up to a cool day. Nice and comfortable weather. We decided to try to get more organized. Wondered why I brought certain objects and where the heck we would put them. I am pleading for one more large tote to put in the back of the truck for the "what do we do with this" stuff. Mostly, sigh, my shoes. I took more than 6 pairs. Well, I am a woman. You never know when the occasion would arise and there I will be, with the right shoes. Had lunch at La Conner Seafood & Steak House. Sat by the window, watching small boats go by on the water....

Sep 12, 2011 - La Conner, Washington

Wow, we are here! Got up this morning at 0600, just couldn't sleep. So much to think about, so much organizing to do. Towards the end of the day yesterday we were just throwing things in boxes to sort out later. Ha! Who's idea was that? Oh, mine. After breakfast I thought I would take a shower and wash my hair, when it dawned on me "I forgot to bring my blow-dryer and curling iron"" Horrors! How could I forget them but yet I remembered to load up on paper towels and toilet tissue? I have often wondered what my real hair color is, as I...

Sep 11, 2011 - The First Day of the Rest of our Lives

As we drove away from the house, leaving our "home" was a very surreal experience. We have always had a home to go to. Now, our home will be the Tyo Casita, and it will be wherever we park her. As we were driving up to La Conner today (cute little fishing village north of Seattle) we realized that TODAY really is the First Day of the Rest of our Lives. That phrase now has an incredible honesty to it. How casually we have said that in the past, mostly with a slight laugh, not really believing it to be true. On this sad day for our country,...
