Jun 23, 2017 - Quite a Trip to Kettle Falls, Washington

On the 22nd, we left Pendleton, Oregon where we got in some casino time & Pete was able to get in a couple rounds of golf. Yesterday (the 22nd) we packed it up & worked our way over to Hwy 395, we were headed for Kettle Falls, Washington. We traveled 312 miles & it only took us over 10 1/2 hours. You ask why so long ??? It was an eventful day, our first issue happened only 25 miles into our trip, it seems that the truck showed the the trailer was not connected.....meaning....no trailer brakes. Pete pulled into a truck stop where he got out...

Jul 15, 2016 - North Lake RV Park

We left Westbank before 8:00 am. The traffic was pretty heavy with morning commuters. Things opened up down around Penticton and turned into a very large agricultural area all the way down to Osoyoos. The Oliver area is supposed to be BC's wine belt. Then it was a left turn onto the Crowsnest Hwy. The Crowsnest Hwy sure made one aware of there driving skills. It went up, down sideways and turned back on itself for about 3/4 of an hour. We finally got to the border crossing we were looking for that would put us closer to our next...

Jun 2, 2013 - Kettle Falls, WA

Days 89 - 90 of The Big Trip On June 1, it was another day of travel through beautiful country. A little less dramatic than what we 'd seen as we drove through the Cascades. We were still in mountains, went over two passes, and followed rushing streams of water. Our drive was almost four hours, traveling just over 100 miles. The destination was Kettle Falls, Washington, located on Lake Roosevelt, which was created by The Grand Coolee Dam on the Columbia River. On the 2nd, our Canadian friends invited everyone for breakfast and we were...

Aug 16, 2012 - Kettle Falls, WA USA

Thu, 16 Aug: Another two hundred miles and we're back in the US. We crossed into the US just before noon at Oroville, WA. This time our border crossing was uneventful. They asked if we had any fruit or veggies in the fridge, which we did. They asked if they could look in the fridge and did not find anything that could not be imported. Very professional and very polite. But first, our day started at our own pace. No alarms or roaring trucks to awake us. We just got up when we got up. Again, since we were boondocking getting underway chores...

Sep 25, 2011 - The start of our RV Journey

After leaving Jim and Leslie McLeod's Estate at Creston B.C. we crossed the border into Washington. Then a fairly quick drive to the Oregon Coast. We only stayed one night at each campground along the way with the exception of Soap Lake. Plenty of time for leisure travel when we reach the coast.

Jul 27, 2011 - Leaving Glacier

Glacier was amazing. We saw mountain goats and sheep through the rangers’ telescopes. We saw a bear on one walk. We saw dozens of ground squirrels and got a few cute photos of them. We saw deer several times and - on a walk with the dogs, straight up in the air, on an off road vehicle trail outside the park yesterday, we found deer antlers that had been shed last winter - they feel like a real treasure! As you know from yesterday’s entry we’ve taken a lot of pictures – way more than we posted :-) We have taken a number of flower photos in...

Jul 10, 2011 - Writing on the Road

Emailed my quarterly story in this morning for the 24 hour short story contest. Today, as we drove east away from the mountains, my heart is smiling to be heading back to be near family and friends, but my soul is weeping as we leave the lands I love. My soul is most at peace on high ground enclosed by massive trees and cool beezes. I feel like this trip in the NW US has been similar to a religious retreat for me. My spirit has been cleansed by the beauty, simplicity and silence. I am so blessed to be able to see and enjoy so much of heaven...

Sep 5, 2010 - Kettle Falls, WA

Next Sunday we will be back at El Montecito Presbyterian Church and I will be singing in the choir with all of my friends. I don’t wish away the days in between but I am really looking forward to being back! It had stopped raining by this morning but it was very cold and damp outside. After breakfast I unhooked and we got ready to travel. We continued on 97 all the way to the border. Traffic was heavy all the way. We started on the highway shared with the trans-Canada. This was four lane divided with a 100 KPH speed limit. After a while it...
