October 8, 2014 Lazy morning as we decided to stay another day in the Pend Oreille area to hike. The camp is terrific and the fall colors are magnificent. After breakfast we walked into Ione (population 444) for some groceries. The area is very depressed with not much going for it other than the Box Canyon train which takes tourists on the weekend north into the Box Canyon to see fall colors. (Lyons Club sponsored). October 7, 2014 We are in no rush today as we will gain an hour moving to PDT. We had French toast for a change. We traveled west on Hwy 2 along the Kootenai River. I don’t know how we could have missed the falls but we did! Turned south on SR 56 which borders the Cabinet Mountain Wilderness on the east. CMW comprises 94,272 acres and was designated a wilderness in 1964 with the signing of the Wilderness Act.
