Aug 5, 2012 - Down on the west side of the Hood Canal
Spent 3 days at the Dow Creek RV Resort near Hoodsport. Drove over to Gig Harbor one day. There sure are a lot of beautiful small harbor towns around the Sound! Spent one day skydiving at Skydive Kapowsin. It is actually in Shelton about 15 miles south of Hoodsport.

Jan 4, 2011 - Exploring Washington
We had another great day in Washington exploring several towns. We had planned to visit Mt. Walker, but they had too much snow and ice in the area. The sides of the roads were filled with icicles, it looked like a winter wonderland. We walked a very nice trail at Dosewallips State Park on the saltwater side and then drove though the other side. Dosewallips State Park is a 425-acre, year-round camping park with 5,500 feet of saltwater shoreline on Hood Canal and 5,400 feet of freshwater shoreline on either side of the Dosewallips River. All...

May 8, 2010 - Exploring the Hood Canal
Today we headed east from Sequim to explore the eastern shore of the Olympic Pennisula. Our first stop was Mount Walker. This is the only peak facing Puget Sound that has a road to its summit. There was two viewpoints. At the south viewpoint we got great views of the Hood Canal a vast arm of Puget Sound. The trough was created as the Vashon Glacier gouged its way southward during the glacial period 10,000 years ago. We were also able to see in the distance Seattle and the snow glad mountains of the Cascade including Mount Rainer. At the...

Oct 19, 2009 - A visit with Juanita's sister
. We had an excellent day for a short drive to our next location in Hoodsport, WA. The temperature was in the low to mid 50’s, skies were mostly cloudy, roads remained dry and there was no wind whatsoever. Because of the short 67-mile drive today, we were very relaxed before our departure and didn’t even get on the road until 10 AM. Fall colors have reached their peak all along the highway and we shouted out all sorts of superlatives at every turn in the road. We had ample opportunity to enjoy the spectacular scenery around us due to the...

Jul 19, 2008 - Hoodsport WA
Now we are on the west side of Olympic National Park, driving along our old "friend", Highway 101. It is a beautiful drive, with the forests and mountains of the park on the right, and the Hood Canal on the left. Unfortunately there is not much room for the roadway in between, especially wide vehicles such as a motorhome! Although narrow, the road surface is new and in great shape...just a challenge at times with narrow bridges and rock outcroppings waiting to scrape you if you are not careful! Hoodsport is in the heart of the Olympic...

Jul 16, 2008 - Hoodsport, WA - Driving & Winery
Since we had a really short drive to Hoodsport, approximately 45 miles, we had a lazy morning. Joe took the Jeep to Pilot and topped off on fuel; now, both vehicles are full as we head into the Olympic Peninsula. We won’t need to fuel the motor home again for a couple of weeks; but, we’ll do a lot of running around in the Jeep for our sightseeing excursions. Traffic was light and we arrived at our home for the next four nights at Glen Ayr RV Park. This is a beautiful location, across the road from the blue waters of Hood Canal. There are...

May 22, 2008 - Hoodsport, WA
Well, we really are relaxing here before our trip to Alaska which will be both exhilarating and tiring. The RV park here is lovely. There were waterfront or park sites to choose from and because it is windy, we chose a parkside. I was a bit disappointed at first but having walked down to the water and seen how small the sites are there, I am gld that Steve chose a park site. We have lots of room, it is quiet, set in amongst trees and there is a variety of wildlife. The sites on the waterfront are right alongside the 101, windy and concrete...

May 4, 2008 - Two nights in Hoodsport, Washington
This morning started off quite cool in Seaside, Oregon, at 39 degrees. The sky was mostly clear and there was no wind for our drive to Hoodsport, Washington. Our noontime arrival was met with clear skies and a temperature in the low 60’s…the warmest day we have seen on the north coast. The early rising sun blasted through our bedroom window this morning prompting us to get up, walk Bodie, have a quick breakfast, and get on the road for our short 150-mile drive to Hoodsport. We left Seaside at a little past 8 AM and began our drive north on...

Sep 14, 2007 - Hoodsport, WA
We arrived at Hoodsport on Friday & got set up. We grilled some fresh salmon and veggies for supper. Afterwards we started a good campfire and enjoyed the evening with our feet propped up on the fire ring. Tough life, but someone has to to it. Next day we wandered up to the southeast corner of Olympic National Park and drove up to the Staircase station. We could tell we were in a rainforest - moss everywhere. But the scenery was spectacular - strong greens and muted yellows, with waterfalls and cloud mist. Sunday was a rain day - good for...
