Apr 13, 2013 - Ferndale, WA

Hi, All is well EXCEPT FOR the fact we almost had to build the ark within the trailer this evening! Somehow the tap was on and when we we connected the pressure hose outside, we started filling the trailer with water.....ahoy!!!!! Anyway, after swimming in to rescue Moe, I managed to turn the water off and begin salvage operations! Had to take all the carpets out and Moe took them to dry in the dryers here....washed the floors....had to clean out the cupboards as the water had even leaked in there.......whew! I must admit that a few four...

Oct 18, 2012 - Day 9 - Hanging out in Ferndale

Nothing much to report today. We were going to head for the Tulalip Casino today but decided to stay here one extra day to watch the Seahawk's game on Thursday Night Football. Could have done that at the casino but would have needed to run the generator the full time. Plugged in here is better. We will go in to town to Walgreen's this afternoon but since it is raining this will otherwise be a hunker down inside day. We'll be headed for Tulalip in the morning and Lake Pleasant on Saturday.

Oct 17, 2012 - Day 8 - Scratch Canada

Heard sirens going up I-5 yesterday afternoon. Now we know why. From this morning's Seattle Times: Canadian border guard Lori Bowcock, shot in the neck in her booth at the Peace Arch Crossing, had worked as a civilian dispatcher at police headquarters in London, Ontario, until last spring, police said. She was hospitalized in stable condition after Tuesday's shooting. Bowcock was wounded Tuesday by a man entering Canada in a van with Washington license plates who then died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, said Royal Canadian Mounted...

Oct 16, 2012 - Day 7 - Ferndale

After doing some scouting around yesterday we decided we liked the Ceders RV Park enough to move up here from the TT. We have a nice wide site with a clear shot for the satellite as well as 50 amps and when the sun breaks through there are no trees to block it. We are close to the town of Ferndale which is about 12 miles north of Bellingham. Right now the plan is to stay here three nights, go to Vancouver B.C. tomorrow and maybe up to Mount Baker on Thursday. Then we will spend one night at the Tulalip Casino before going home on Saturday....

Jun 11, 2012 - Day off

Still can't figure out how to post photos. Downloaded the app requested, but it still doesn't work. Sorry about that. Shall have to try to paint word pictures. SATURDAY We did make Spokane. Became WalMart campers for the night. There was a nice park right across the street that was fenced. Oscar got to run and even Rudy enjoyed his walk in the park. SUNDAY We were up early and did some grocery shopping before pulling out of WalMart. It was nice driving thru downtown Spokane early on a Sunday morning - no traffic. Shortly after leaving...

May 22, 2012 - Day 1

Hit the border about noon Huge lineup of trucks - I couldn't even make the turn to the border so I had to go through the intersection and come back and turn left into the Nexus lane. The Nexus pass got me to the front of the 30 minute lineup and the customs official let me through with just 3 or 4 question. The only problem I had was easing the trailer through the obstacle course leading up to the booth. They've set up humongous poles and 2 or 3 turns I guess so a mad citizen can't race through there to avoid paying duty! I stopped at the...

Aug 8, 2011 - Berries and Flowers and Games

Saturday moseyed along and included a walk at a nearby park... There was a wedding and birthday parties and family gatherings - a beautiful day and full of celebrations. On the other side of the park was a Civil Ware reenactment... Interesting offset to all the modern day fun: Guys playing horseshoes and others cleaning their muskets, ladies in elaborate dress and a young girl playing her fiddle - (sorry about the modern music stand) - but a lovely family group. Home for dinner - Cole Slaw and Sweet Potato Salad and Molasses Baked Beans...

Aug 6, 2011 - Ferndale WA - the Garden of Eden :-)

Wednesday was quiet day to do a little more around the trailer and ready ourselves for a visit to Escape Trailers. But in the early evening we decided to take a “short hike up the hill/small mountain across the road. Se we started up the trailer – inadvertently took a “short cut” that went straight up - and ended up doing a two hour (plus) climb at Cultus Lake with the dogs to “Tea Pot Hill”, with some nice views of the lake and some challenging climbing for all of us. Thursday was a transition day, as we went back to Escape Trailers to...

Jul 23, 2011 - Ferndale, Washington....USA!!!!

We're in Ferndale, Washington for the night. Will try to fill in some more later. Took the "Sea to Sky Highway" from Cache Creek, BC to Horseshoe Bay, BC...near Vancouver. Beautiful drive with lots of mountain scenery, narrow and twisty roads, and steep inclines and declines. Passed through Whistler, where the Olympics took place in 2010 (I think). We didn't go into the village itself...traffic was a nightmare....backed up for miles heading in that direction from the south. Thankfully we were going south so it wasn't too bad for us. But we...

Aug 26, 2010 - Back in The U.S.A.

There are two ways to get back to the US of A: stay on the highway we're on and go into the US east of Bellingham or take 99 which is the more dramatic, passing through several different areas and ending up in Vancouver. We take the dramatic one and more westerly one. AND it is more dramatic! The first part is a transition from prairie to canyon with high mountains on either side and forest. We follow the valley floor for the most part paralleling streams, rock outcropping, some mining and beautiful lakes. We stop, hike a bit and get back...

Jul 14, 2010 - Ferndale, WA

After driving 200 miles yesterday, we decided to take it easy today and stick around home base area. We went looking for fruit stands and produce markets. Found a couple. Blueberries are starting to come off and raspberries are in full swing. We found a "u-pick-em" spot for raspberries and we will go later this week. We found a county park nearby called Hovander Homestead Park. We enjoyed that gardens and I found a geocache there. There are some animals there so Paula had to visit with them.
