Aug 4, 2018 - Tillamook to Elma Washington

Happy 4th of July We have spent a month here at the Elks RV park just south of Tillamook and have done a lot of site seeing, beach walks, and hiking. Tillamook is where they make some great cheese and is a major tourist attraction, every time we drove by it was mobbed from early morning to close. There is another cheese factory the Blue Heron French cheese factory and this is where we visited for some wine tasting, cheese tasting and lunch. During our stay we drove as far north as Warrington to Costco for new glasses for me and visiting...

May 6, 2017 - Part 1, Elma, Washington

We had a nice time in Tucson. We visited with Larry and Janet Jones, friends we knew from our church choir in Olympia who moved to Tucson some ten years ago. They are planning to go to Australia this year, so we showed them the PowerPoint presentation on our year there. I hope we were able to help them make some decisions about how to get along there and what to see. We had a delightful afternoon seeing their home and catching up on old times. We also visited with Jon’s stepmother Janet and his brother Roger (“Bob” to the family) at Janet’s...

Dec 21, 2016 - Travel Inn Resort, Elma, Washington

Upon leaving Hoodsport, we returned to our “home” campground here in Elma to await appointments with doctors and various testing required to decide what will be done about Jon’s back. More about that below. A totally unrelated but interesting fact: Normally rainy, Seattle experienced the highest amount of rainfall in the month of October ever recorded for that month. While we wait, we occupy ourselves with the day-to-day activities similar to what most 70+ year old couples do – we “putz” around doing chores and hobbies. We take advantage of...

Sep 13, 2016 - Elma, Washington

When we finally made the decision to head back to Washington State (to get help for Jon’s increasingly-painful back) instead of going down the Mississippi River after leaving Wisconsin, we set out to get there as quickly as we could safely. We usually try to avoid the interstates because they are just so boring, but for this trip we chose to travel I-90 most of the way. Jon still drove only four or five hours each day, so we averaged about 220 miles per day for the nine days it took us to get to our “home park” in Elma, Washington. The...

Sep 10, 2016 - Late at night

So, here I am sitting at my computer, munching on food my husband would not approve of, and trying to think of what I would say today. Sometimes its a hard thing to do, other times it just flows. Guess what today is? We are moving across the freeway tomorrow to another RV park here in Elma. We will stay there for a week on our Passport America discount, then move back here for two weeks for our free spot. Comes with our membership. Two weeks free, one week out, then two weeks free, and so it goes. Latest plan, leave in 3 weeks to head for...

Yippee Tyo's!

Sep 6, 2016 - Sprinkles

Okay, just so you know....do not get in a political argument with someone who likes to argue just to annoy you. Jeez... Got me so riled up, I almost blew my head off. Rain today...but, then we are in Washington State where it must rain to keep everything green, keep the moss on the trees and roofs. One thing about living in an RV is that the rain on the roof sounds pretty cool. Toby, however, does not like to go outside to pee when it is raining. Which can create a problem, so we have to put out the awning so he does not get sprinkled on...

Yippee Tyo's!

Sep 1, 2016 - TMI

Ever have those days when you your hair turns out perfect? And, if you could take your head off at night and set it on a platter so it doesn't mess up the locks...well, wouldn't that be the neatest thing? Today, however, was not one of those days. Sigh. Nope, today it was like my hair grew 3 inches over night and not in any symmetrical order. Oh, yes, I know you understand because, as any woman can tell you...it happens. Amazing how a bunch of hair can ruin your day. I started seeing an acupuncturist to help relieve the pain in my hips....

Aug 31, 2016 - She/He is back!

Yes, yes, I know. Been awhile. We have been doing stuff and not doing stuff. I would say nothing too exciting. We were at Shelton, Wash for about 5 days where the Little Cedars Casino is located. My son Alex's friend from high school is a chef there and we got to visit with Sonny or a bit. He is about 40 years old and I swear doesn't look any different from high school. A sweet smile and happy personality. After visiting with him we decided to try our luck at the slot machines. Yes, we clutched our $5.00 bills, squeezing the life out of...

Yippee Tyo's!

Jun 27, 2016 - Elma, Washington

Well, we finally made it to Washington State. Almost safe and sound. Safe, anyway. Definitely, not sound. It was a beautiful drive along the Columbia River. We passed so many State campgrounds that as we drove by we would say "oh, let's stop there sometime". So many are right on the river with some great views. The weather was in the upper 70's and clouds were in the sky. As we drove up Interstate 205 from Oregon to Washington we were pleased..like "ahhh" pleased to see the Oregon sign saying thanks for stopping by...but, wait, what...no...

Yippee Tyo's!

May 26, 2016 - Elma, Washington

The trip north through northern California and southern Oregon was beautiful as always. Shasta Lake contained more water than we have seen there in years, and Mount Shasta had a lovely shawl of clouds. Central Oregon (at 4200 feet) was very cold in late April; we even saw a few ice pellets that felt an awful lot like winter. Our repairs in Bend went smoothly, taking just three days. We spent one night in the little town of Dufur, Oregon, where there is a nice city park with 14 RV sites along with picnic sites, ball parks, a pool (that...

Aug 29, 2015 - A windy and rainy drive along Hood Canal to Elma, Washington

Heavy rains and rain were with us on our 95-mile drive along the Hood Canal today. As we rounded one corner, a large branch broke away from the winds and landed in the opposite lane from us. Too close, it gave us a sense of our angel watching out for us and good timing. We spent one night here at one of our R.O.D. parks.

Dream On

Jul 26, 2015 - Day 19

We finally found a seaport we liked, Port Townsend on the Olympic Peninsula. We drove past Port Townsend yesterday so we retuned there today. The plan was to take a ferry to Whidbey Island. But when we got there and stopped at the town visitor center the greeter said the ferry was very busy and we might have to wait a long time to get aboard, plus the trip across, exploring the island and the return trip would add hours to our day. So we nixed the idea of riding the ferry. Instead we stayed a few hours in Port Townsend. The greeter told us...
