Aug 28, 2011 - Deception Pass

A few notes before starting the journal for today: #1 - "Auto Brew" worked on the coffee maker this morning! YEAH! Sheila was a happy camper! #2 - I emailed the photos of the dog and the cute bike to the guy on the bike and got a reply thanking me for the photos, and saying that the dog, Tokyo, is a guide dog and that he is blind! I was shocked! I had no idea he was blind, and would never have guessed it from our brief encounter on the trail. Now back to the journal for today. We drove to Deception Pass to view the bridge and scenery that...

Jul 21, 2011 - Day 51 - Deception Pass

The alarm went off at 7am and I had to turn off the phone to get it to stop buzzing. Shower and hit the road about 8am. Heading to cousin Donna's house in Everett, WA, 75 miles away. We arrived at Donna's a little after 10am. We enjoyed a cup of coffee with Donna and her husband Rico. Then about 10:30 we left Donna's house in her new Mercedes. Nice being chauffeured around in such a beautiful & nice riding vehicle. Donna drove us to the Ferry overWhidbeyidby Island. First ferry ride. We drove along highway 525/20 to Coupeville where we...

Jul 20, 2011 - July 18, 2011 Day 45 Washington

Johnny is up at 6:10AM which wakes Jan up. After a cereal breakfast, we are off at 7:50AM. We drive into Lillooet and see the town. A local artist has lined the streets with big chucks of Jade and it is pretty neat. We cross the Fraser River and then cross Canyon Creek which is a one-lane bridge. We are still on Highway 99 and we drive along Canyon Creek for a while. We cross another one-lane bridge. The canyon walls are very steep. A small deer bounces in front of us. Johnny says this road is “nerve wracking.” We see another deer, this one...

When we left Sequim, we drove to Port Townsend to take a ferry to Whidbey Island. Port Townsend is a quaint town that has worked hard to maintain its Victorian past. It is in a beautiful location, on the point of a peninsula in the Puget Sound. It was our first time putting the motor home on a ferry and it is a little heart stopping to think that your home and most of what you own are floating across the water. We celebrated Duane’s 66th birthday with a nice lunch in Port Townsend. We camped in a private park across the road from Deception...

I woke up this morning still reeling from the loss of Pixel. I didn't get much sleep. We had a few more preparations to take care of, not the least of which was getting Zoe and Zac to the airport for their late morning flight to Dallas to visit their dad over spring break. Even though the kids have been flying alone for years, and know the drill very well, we still accompany them through security and wait at their gate until the plane has pulled away. Tara left for Philly on Sunday, so once Zoe and Zac's flight was gone, Steven and I were...

Mar 1, 2009 - Deception Pass

Guess I had a little too much fun in Whistler and wore myself down. I now have a cold that just won't go away. It is day 6 and still not feeling lots better. So, this post may be a bit less than inspiring but here goes. Just a couple of days ago we got another 2" of snow in La Conner which covered Mt.Baker and the nearby Olympics and yes, we hear a foot of snow in Whistler. So, a little drive was in order to get rid of the cabin fever I was developing. Tourist rags talked about taking a 20 mile drive on Chuckanut so off we went. It did not...
