Sep 24, 2012 - Chimacum, WA

Mon, 24 Sep: We've finally moved out of Chris' yard. This morning we moved fourteen miles north to the Escapees Coho Evergreen Cooperative in Chimacum. It took us a bit of time to maneuver, Carpe out of the yard. Ditches on both sides as well as telephone, cable, and power lines overhead. Despite all we succeeded and Sandi drove the short distance to Chimacum and we were parked and set up by 1030. Thanks a million Chris for your kind hospitality. Before we continue with this destination, we encourage you to revisit the previous (Port...

Aug 19, 2012 - The Wanderer's Danger

I read a book entitled Blue Highways by William Least Heat-Moon. Written in 1978 after losing his job, the author spent three months traveling across the United States in a converted pickup truck. Most of his travels were on secondary highways referred to as “blue highways” so called because these roads were often indicated on atlases by the color blue. Despite being somewhat dated in many of his references, some of his observations still apply to our RV lifestyle today. Take the following quote: “I watched the empty road and hated the...

May 1, 2012 - Too much of a good thing

Saturday was such a great day. But by Saturday night JC started feeling queazy, along with a couple of unscheduled trips to the bathroom. We woke up on Sunday with JC feeling really punky. We started thinking he had food poisoning. I was feeling OK and we more or less ate the same stuff. As Sunday rolled into Monday, it became obvious JC was in trouble. We rushed off to a local clinic and after bouts of really bad vomiting (sorry to be so graphic), it definitely was food poisoning. We suspect it was the clams in the potpourri of the steamed...

Aug 11, 2011 - Chimacum, WA

Our Alaska trip is over and it was great. We saw so many wonderful sites and had many great adventures. The countryside was beautiful and the pictures does not do it just. But the prices were terribly high and I think they price gouge the public. We did not eat out as oftem as we would have liked because of the price. We are happy to be back in the US. We arrived in Chimacum, WA which on the Olympic Peninsula near the town of Port Townsend. We are staying at the Escapees park called Evergreen SKP for members only where you can buy your lot....

Jul 4, 2011 - Washington State

We have spent the past three week around and in Olympic National Park in the northwestern corner of Washington. June was mostly cloudy with a few showers and a very very few sunny days with temps in the high 50's low 60's during the day and in the high 40's at night. The 1st week of July has been nice, sunny days in the low 70's and nights in the 60's. So far Oregon and Washington are the two states we love the most. We are staying at a wonderful RV resort, SKP Evergreen COHO, which is very clean, gardens everywhere, very large RV sites...

News From the Road

May 28, 2011 - Olympic Peninsula

After a rather hectic week in Seattle we left town for a short get away on the Olympic Peninsula. Why, you ask, was the week so hectic? Well, our daughter, Michele, celebrated her 'dirty thirty' birthday! The celebration started on May 14 when her best friend, Amanda, arrived from Jefferson City, MO. Michele's significant other, Derrick, flew Amanda in for a 3 day visit! We picked her up from the airport, met Derrick at their apartment and then the 4 of us went to Michele's restaurant to surprise her. And was she surprised. Stunned would...

Aug 7, 2010 - Forced Encampment!

We were forced out of paradise at the Point Hudson Marina due to a 14 day limit and have retreated here to the Escapees park in nearby Chimacum. We'll stay a week, practice our social skills, and recharge our batteries...literally, this being the first time we have been "plugged-in" to electricity and water since Eugene. And we need a rotisserie fix with a couple of Cornish game hens in the freezer just waiting to be roasted, plus doing laundry is much more convenient and cheaper! Thinking positive.... The park is full to overflowing with...

Sep 7, 2009 - Fort Flagler State Park

Today we decided to join John and Susan and visit Fort Flagler State Park, the third of the forts that protected Puget Sound. We all jumped into John and Susan's big Ford F350 pickup and headed out for another great day with them. It's definitely cooling off here, especially on the waterfront, but overall it was a very nice day. Big clouds were billowing up almost all day, but we only had a few sprinkles where we were. After spending some time at Fort Flagler State Park we headed back and along the way stopped at a nice bar and grill for...

Sep 6, 2009 - Rainy, Stormy Day and Trip to Grandma's

It was rainy and windy most of the night, and that continued throughout most of today. The sound of rain on the roof of the Dutch Star is very pleasant, and both Nancy and I enjoy these rainy days every now and then. I've been hoping for a stormy day for a while and today I got what I wanted. We decided to take the ferry and visit Nancy's 96 year old grandma Elizabeth and uncle Paul, and after the visit joined them for dinner at Claire's Pantry, one of Nancy and G'ma's favorite local restaurants, which is located in Edmonds near where we...

Sep 4, 2009 - Port Townsend

Nancy and I joined John and Susan to check out Port Townsend with John driving. It couldn't have been a better day with very mild temperatures and sunshine all day. John and Susan are such a hoot, and we had a great time with them, topped off with dinner by Nancy, not to mention a few gin and tonics. Somehow I had an impression that Port Townsend was a small town, maybe somewhat bigger than Port Gamble, but I was very wrong about that. It's quite a bustling place with lots of touristy kind of shops, restaurants, etc. Above the downtown area...

Sep 3, 2009 - Port Gamble and More

After having lunch with Ryen and Nicole in Kingston, Nancy and I stopped by Port Gamble, parked the Ranger and walked all over this very charming, quaint little town. Port Gamble is a historically restored old mill town, and they have restored it beautifully, in our opinions. After walking around town and getting an ice cream cone at the General Store we moved on to Port Ludlow, which is an upscale area as evidenced by the many very expensive boats moored nearby. After that on to Port Hadlock and then back to the rig. We walked around the...
