Sep 14, 2015 - Getting to Northwest Washington

I guess that you all have figured out that I am the world's worst (or is it best) procrastinator. Here it is September 14, and the blog is still stuck back in August. In an attempt to deal with that, I am going to chronicle only the highlights of a good portion of our meanderings. We made two additional stops on the way to Birch Bay, Washington. The first was Ponderosa Pines RV Resort in Cheney, WA. For the most part it is a very nice park, with plenty of activities for kids and adults - a great place for families. We only stayed one night,...

May 30, 2014 - Ponderosa Falls RV Park

We're going to slow down and spend 3 nights near Spokane. We found a beautiful RV park and very close to Ruth & Gary. On Sunday, we enjoyed most of the air show from nearby Fairchild AFB while sitting in Ruth & Gary's backyard. As you can see from the photos, we literally had a great viewpoint of the Air Force Thunderbirds.

Sep 10, 2012 - Langley to Cheney, WA

Monday -- Langley is very close to the US border. After a quick Travelodge buffet breakfast we drove BC Rte 13 south through Aldergrove to the US Border. There was a 20-minute wait but no complications. In Bellevue, WA we stopped for our last visit at Fred Meyer to stock up for the driving days ahead. Of course we bought sushi for dinner too! The drive today was so beautiful climbing to 3022ft through the Snoqualmie Pass in the Cascade mountain range. Our lunch stop in North Bend at the Northwest Railroad Museum gave us an unexpectedly...

Jun 11, 2012 - New computer & miniature golf

We drove into Spokane to pick up John’s new computer. If you have ever been to Best Buy, you know that they have someone stationed by the door to check what you are taking out. As we were going towards the door, the young lady guarding the door was unbelievably excited and happy for us that we were going to have a new computer. She giggled and swooned and threw her arms up with excitement. I must admit that we stared at her as though we had just put a quarter in a “cheer up” machine where the mechanism inside tried to make you happy. It was...

Yippee Tyo's!

Jun 10, 2012 - Spokane, Wash.

We were very lazy and didn’t get up till 9:30 a.m. Must have been pretty darn sleepy. We have been having trouble with John’s computer, first with Windows, then having trouble getting it to turn on. It is about 5 years old, so we suspected that it was a goner, but hope springs eternal. We headed for Spokane, about 10 miles away and stopped at Best Buy, holding tightly onto my wallet, biting my lip and turning it over to the Geek on duty with trembling hands. Well, let’s just say that we had to buy a new computer and will pick it up...

Yippee Tyo's!

Jun 8, 2012 - Cheney, Wash.

We got up this morning and took a walk around the campground in Moses Lake. It is really nice here, with lots of space. We walked over to the lake. Such a lovely day, about 63 and sunny. They have a volley ball court by the lake, and a neat pool. Temperature said 82, but not warm enough for me to strip down and dive in. I need a bit more heat. It was about a 2 hour drive to Cheney. I am a boring passenger because once I hit the truck and we take off, boof (my new word), I fall asleep. Drives John nuts cause he now has no one to talk to and...

Jun 21, 2010 - Peaceful Pines RV Park in Cheney, Washington

*Monday- June 21* We arrived at Peaceful Pines RV Park in Cheney, Washington today. It rained most of the day. We are staying here for two nights. We went for a drive through Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge south of town Monday evening. We saw lots of birds, waterfowl , deer, and moose driving through a five mile peaceful nature drive. We also saw a horned owl and later we saw a coyote near our car heading toward the road, but it turned quickly and ran off into the woods. Then we saw what it was after--a wild turkey on the road. I guess...

Jun 8, 2010 - Just had a great family moment in Missoula MT

Here we are in Cheney WA, having arrived here this evening from Missoula MT. We were in Missoula for some family time with Judie’s brother Tom and his daughter’s family for the high school graduation of our great-niece, Allison. We really enjoyed the whole visit, spending time with Tom and the Lawrence family. It was great fun to participate with the family in celebrating the graduation. The weather of the visit included drizzle, lightning, thunder, early morning sun and beautiful rainbows in a couple evenings. We will be seeing Rich and...

Aug 10, 2009 - End of the Trail Cowboy

8/9-10/09 We left the rest area and went to Cheney [Ponderosa Falls RV Park]. Interjection: What Nick doesn’t know is that Mom and Dad will be picking him up tonight. The plans were for two full months with us but he will be two days short. Not bad for a loose itinerary. While on this trip Nick also completed his “Travelers Badge” towards his WEBELOS Scout “Arrow of Light” award. He was required to pack for a trip, plot out four trips [days travel] on a map, give directions on one of those routes, calculate the cost per mile, examine our...

Jul 13, 2009 - Through Northeast Washington

Moses Lake is one of those few campgrounds that I would return to if I was in this part of the country again. Nice site and lovely setting...good walking place for Noli and me. After leaving it, we were soon away from the mountains into farming land and desert. Don't know how they farm in this kind of soil, but we traveled forever through beautiful farmland...mostly wheat fields. After the farm communities--and any nearby town looked very depressed--we were into desert...and more desert. I don't usually enjoy desert driving, but these...

Sep 15, 2008 - Through the Cascades

September 15...Ponderosa Falls Resort---Cheney, WA We got up at 6:45 AM. Joe went straight up to talk with Dennis before he went to work. I thought I had enough time to get a shower. I took a quick one and got dressed. I started to pick-up downstairs and realized "No"...go see Dennis before he heads to work. He went out the door while I was climbing the steps :-( I called "Good Bye" to him...but I don't think he heard me. :-/ Lily had made me breakfast. I felt bad that she was waiting on us...but she had a way of making you feel special....
