Apr 2, 2017 - Chelalis, WA

Mar 31, 2017 Nothing much going on today, the Mike’s are going after batteries for the golf cart and I washed the car. Little cars get very dirty when they are towed behind the Big Ass Elephant (our RV) in the rain. Apr 1, 2017 All four of us went to breakfast and took Dick H along with us and then went and looked at a couple of properties here in Castle Rock/Kelso. No go on either of them but with a tip from Dick H. I went on line and found another possible in Centralia. Contacted the realtor and we will go look at it tomorrow. Apr 2,...

Mar 26, 2015 - Midway RV park

By far the best day of our return trip. Skies clear no wind and temps hovering in the high 70s. Wish they could all have been so nice. We followed the Columbia river till Portland. I didn't realize there were so many dams with power generating going on this river. Also noted many fields of windmill turbines so diversity is a fact down here. We took the bypass around Portland/Vancouver it made a real difference in traffic density for sure. Will remember that route. Made the right hand turn to North and have settled in an old and familiar...

Mar 21, 2014 - Midway RV park

Went a little further today than we planned, but had a nice early start with great weather so decided to go for it. Unfortunately it was an hour and a half ordeal to get thru Portland and Vancouver but we pushed on. We returned to the first park we visited on our original trip in 2010. Small things have changed but still a mom and pop operation beside a working sawmill. Nice to step outside at nite time and smell that fresh cut lumber, memories of driving by Fields when it was operating. Temps never went above 57F today so we really believe...

Feb 20, 2014 - The penultimate leg

The fog was thick when we got up to head out on our second-to-last leg home, so we decided to head inland early -- from Newport instead of Florence, (as we'd done on the way down). What a great decision. The highway (38) follows the Umquah River for most of the way and it is a very scenic stretch of road. Although the sky was overcast, we left the fog on the dunes, so visibility was fine, and we didn't mind the rainy rainforest feel to everything at all. Passed two more elk herds not far out of Newport and talked about "Sometimes a Great...

Nov 1, 2013 - 10th District Conference

We had a restful night of sleep, which is a nice thing. I had to go back to the office to tidy up a few things before we headed South to Centralia. The 10th District Conference was held at the Centralia Post, a neat old facility on the second floor of an old downtown building...you know, one of those buildings with stairs as steep as an orchard ladder. Good thing there is an elevator off the back parking lot that made things easier for old joints! The meeting went well and was pretty well attended. The economy in this District is depressed...

Oct 1, 2013 - Centralia, Washington

Today was better, more sun, but still lots of rain. It is my (Mike) birthday, we went to the dentist to have our teeth cleaned. We had to drive to Centralia, about 12 miles, there was a wonderful mural of a quilting bee on one of the buildings. We also saw a display of old farm equipment along the side of the road.

Jun 13, 2011 - Hanging around a few days

We stayed at Jim and Dee to help out in the yard, do a washing and play a few card games of Hand & Foot. We also made plans to go visit Randy & Jana and do a little tourist sight-seeing up north. We also talked about going camping when we come back down in July.

Jun 8, 2011 - Long drive

Left campsite about 8am after a bowl of shreded wheat. Stopped for lunch in Baker OR. Stopped again at Wal-mart to buy new windshield wippers for our truck. One was giving us a bad time while trying to cross the Blue Mts. Then...I don't know what happened (maybe it was the rain) but we desided we could keep driving when we got close to Portland, OR. So we pulled into Jim & Dee's place about 9:30pm Wed. night. We had stopped for lunch in Baker OR and desided not to stop in Walla Walla since Barb and Duane had just been in Sun City to see us....

Apr 2, 2010 - Day 3 are we there yet?

Well 7am was our planned wake up call but at 5 the laughter from the other side of the bed was more than i could deal with and just as i was rolling over she shot straight up and hollered PAARTY!!!! Needless to say i think it's going to be a very long day. The ferry ride was very rough with greenies over the bow and some technicolor yawns seen around the ship LOL meal line was very short. Ferry was late so didn't get the distance we thought but so what eh. Customs was a little odd who knew you could only bring one litre each into THEIR...

Sep 1, 2009 - Day 40 Tuesday Sept 1,2009

Day 40 Tuesday, Sept 1,2009 Woke up to very gray, cloudy skies this morning. Temp. quite cool & crisp. We headed south down I5 again. This time we are traveling to Mt.St.Helens. This was a day looong trip. It was enjoyable to see this territory again. To see how much the trees had grown and see if there had been much recovery to the land around the mtn. As you may remember, in May of 1980 Mt.St.Helen erupted. It is just hard to get your mind around how powerful this explosion was. It just blew away one side of this mtn. and thousands &...

Aug 31, 2009 - Day 39 Monday Aug 31,2009

Day 39 Monday, Aug 31,2009 Today we began retracing our path, back down I5 & Hwy 12 for a ways and eventually turned due North toward Mt. Rainier. Traveled thru dense forest and got into mtns. Traveled probably an hour and a half. Finally reached the visitor center for Mt. Rainier called Paradise. It is absolutely beartiful here!!! Hard to describe. Ronald & Kathy had not yet arrived with their friends. We waited for a while and decided to go ahead an get something to eat since it was about 2:00pm. We had just started eating when Ron &...
