Oct 29, 2014 - A very sad day, we're back in Seattle

This morning we continued our journey to Seattle. The trip up I-5 was uneventful until we started running into traffic near Ft. Lewis, just south of Tacoma. Just as the traffic was starting to thicken the phone rang with a call from Jennifer, Debbie's oldest daughter. The news was a shock, Debbie had passed away earlier in the day. Fortunately for Bev, she had been able to spend a full week with her sister when they could still visit and spend quality time together last month. The last several days, Debbie was mostly unresponsive. Bev has...

Sep 10, 2014 - Burien, WA Elks Lodge

This morning we moved over to the Elks Lodge in Burien which is very near the Sea-Tac Airport. After being at the hospital for a week, we needed hookups! While it was so very convenient to be at the hospital for visits, the utility aspect wore very thin. We have been here at the Burien Elks before so we knew the spaces would be tight and hard to get, but the 50amp power and full hookups makes it a wonderful spot to land. One of the highlights of our time in the Seattle area was to see Ben & Jen on one of their visits home from their...

Jun 10, 2014 - Burien, WA

For several years we have wanted to make an inland passage Alaska cruise to see parts of Alaska that we couldn’t see from our RV in “09”. We were successful in getting one of those low cost last minute deals. We leave 6/15 for 7 days with a 73% discount for the room. So, it’s off to the Seattle area to settle in and park our rig. The only Elks Lodge with RV parking in the Seattle area is Burien, which is near Sea-Tac Airport, to Larry’s delight. He loves watching airplanes taking off and landing. Along the way we passed the city of Battle...

Sep 29, 2013 - 11th District Conference

More rain and wind...and accidents. Our meeting was at the Burien Post, near Sea-Tac Airport. It's a small place, and seating was a bit tight for those who did show up. As with most of the conferences so far, my comments are pretty well received so that is encouraging. I am hoping we can get people motivated to work on their membership and the various Legion programs. No major issues arose, though I was interrupted during my speech by a Legionnaire with her issue. We will get this every time she is in the crowd. While we are sympathetic to...

Jun 28, 2013 - A day of fun with friends in Seattle!

Since there are only 7 RV sites at the Burien Elks and they are very difficult to come by, we departed Puyallup early, 6:30AM, in order to blend in with the early morning commuters. It paid off! Not only did we get the edge on the early rush hour, but we secured a full hook-up spot at the Burien Elks Lodge. By noon, we had picked up Debbie and were meeting our Quincy friends at McIvar's on the waterfront of Seattle. When we drove over to the facility where Debbie (Bev's sister) is currently living, we were amazed at well she is doing. What...

Apr 19, 2010 - Just My Opinion

If you are ever in the Seattle area The Museum of Flight at the Boeing complex is a must see. Plan a whole day because we arrived at 10A and didn't leave until they closed at 4:30PM, even at that we had to move right along to see it all. Here is a tidbit of info you will probably never need to know but I thought was very interesting, the earth is traveling at 67,000MPH as it orbits around the sun and the speed of the earth at the equator is 1,000MPH as it rotates on it's axis. The price of unleaded gas here is $3.15 per gallon and diesel is...

Apr 18, 2010 - Best Grilled Salmon Dinner

Tracy called this morning saying she was feeling much better and invited us to come over this afternoon. Once again it has been too long since we've seen Rock and Tracy but as with all good friends it is seems so easy to pick up where we left off and catch up with where we are now. Many years ago we had a managers meeting here in Seattle and Tracy invited us all out to her house for a grilled salmon dinner, well for years now I have told everyone that the best salmon I ever had was at Tracy's house, I'm happy to report that the grilled...

Apr 17, 2010 - Sewer Problrems Again

When I took my shower last night I noticed the water wasn't draining well, apparently I didn't drain the tanks before leaving Gig Harbor. So this morning I hooked up the drain hose and started to drain the gray water tank I had no more than opened the valve when I noticed the drain over flowing. Of course of the eight spaces here I'm the only one with a plugged drain so I guess we'll have to take some really short showers until the city can come out Monday. I don't know what it is with me and plumbing but I seem to have more than my share...

Apr 16, 2010 - Short Drive to Seattle

When we left Gig Harbor this morning headed for the Elks Lodge in Burien which is a suburb of south Seattle we made sure we went through the toll booth. The Elks lodge is in the middle of town on a very busy street, they have eight full hook up spaces for $15 a night fortunately they had two empty spaces left. After getting settled in I called Tracy who had just got back from a business trip to Hawaii yesterday, unfortunately she picked up a bug of some kind and was really feeling under the weather. Tracy is the Parts manger of the Seattle...
