Jul 7, 2012 - Seattle area

Arrived July 4th, we are north of Seattle proper; followed the GPS instructions, lo and behold the street to turn on was blocked off due to the 4th parade.....well driving a '43 motor home and towing a vehicle makes it a bit difficult to find a place to stop much less turn around. Finally we found the local high school parking lot & called the RV Park for other directions, however they were not that informative so we disconnected the Jeep and drove to check it out. Finally found it and returned to pick up coaches, Park is very nice on a...

Feb 7, 2012 - Photos I promised on our last entry

These are the photos of them planting the almond orchard in Fresno. THe machine that does the majority of the work costs $160,000.00 and the GPS system costs $35,000.00. THe machine first makes furrows then digs the holes 4 feet deep. 2 men riding on the back of the machine poke the bare root trees into the holes dug by the machine. THe machine then covers up the holes. Pretty amazing technology. It will be at least 4 years before the trees become a paying crop!

Oct 23, 2011 - Rainy Seattle and a Chocolate HIGH!

After spending a month in Billings visiting family (lots of time with Mom which is always precious)and friends (two I ran in to that I hadn't seen for 39 years...what a treat)and Mike completing his wiring job for my step-brother (which he really enjoyed)we headed for Seattle on October 8th after getting Mom out of the hospital twice and stabilized, we left the beautiful Montana fall weather and headed for rainy Seattle. Thank goodness it was an uneventful 850 mile trip made in 2 days (something we almost never do) but having driven that...

Sep 29, 2011 - Seattle

From the day we arrived in Bothell we have spent most of our time with Ginger’s cousin, Neil, and her parents who flew in late on Tuesday, Sept 13th. Tuesday afternoon we drove to our good friends/ex-neighbors’ (Jay, Tina and Kelsey) house in Sammamish. They moved out here about 15 years ago. We saw them when they were in VT last year around Christmas. They met Bayley at that time. We introduced Bayley to their dog Lola in preparation for leaving Bayley with them while we were on the boat cruise. We had a lovely dinner, caught up some more,...

Sep 29, 2011 - On to Bothell, WA

On Monday, Sept 12 we hooked up, dumped (as we had not had a sewer connection) and headed west on Route 2. Once again we were treated to some wonderful scenery as we followed the river and started the climb to Steven’s Pass. The SUPERDUY got another workout but it handled the pass with flying colors. The west approach to the Pass is quite steep – not the relatively gradual climb from the east. We didn’t have any problems but I was happy not to have to pull that grade on the west side. The rest of the trip was an easy one. We passed a couple...

Jul 19, 2011 - Seattle

Hello, We're at Pleasant Lake RV Park in Bothell, Washington. Bothell is really a suburb of Seattle today, and only about 6 miles from where I lived 60 years ago. At 1:00 it is raining and 61° here. We drove over to Carol and Doug's, only a couple blocks from the campground, did some catching up on familes. Carol and Doug took us to the Bonefish Grill for dinner, I had wild Atlantic salmon, delicious! Monday morning at 7:00 AM it was very foggy and 58°, I took the car and our bike to a car wash, it needed it very badly after towing behind...

Apr 29, 2011 - A brief change of direction

. Well, we are finally high and dry. We traveled 157 miles from Grayland Beach to Bothell, which is located about 17 miles northeast of downtown Seattle and are enjoying a couple of days with interesting activities and visits with friends. Until this afternoon it has been wet and cool, but the sun began to find holes in the clouds this afternoon and the weekend weather looks promising. The main objective of our sudden direction change towards Seattle was to see our Port Orford friend Darren graduate from underwater welding tech school. He...

Jun 27, 2010 - Weekend with the Dott's

Friday morning we went north to Arlington, WA for the weekend. We stayed with our old friends Jeff and Leisa Dott. Our friendship with the Dott's goes way back. Leisa and I were roommates in 1991. She married Jeff who lived here in the Pacific Northwest. So when I moved up here in 2000, we renewed our friendship and the four of us have had many good times together. The last couple of days was no exception. Jeff and Leisa just returned from a fabulous Mediteranean crusie which mostly consisted of Italy. While there, they took a cooking class...

Jun 23, 2010 - Wecome to Seattle

We have been having a wonderful, relaxing time here in the Seattle area. As you know we have had great sunshine, warm, actually very hot weather the first 4 or 5 days. As we crossed the Columbia River from Oregon into Washington if began to rain! It continued to rain harder and get darker as we went north. In Tacoma there was a five mile backup and traffic was a mess. As we sat there going from stop to 2 mph, Virg said, "Do you remember why we moved from Washington, besides wanting to be closer to our kids?" "The rain, grey and traffic!" So...

Mar 23, 2010 - Preparing for Spring Road Trip - The SRT

Well things have been kind of quiet here at Lake Pleasant this winter. Thankfully it was a mild one except for a few weeks of very cold temps where the lake here froze over. We are busy getting ready for the SRT, our Spring Road Trip. This will hopefully cover about 3000 miles. After visiting Grandpa Dews in Cathedral City, CA and the Clark family in Las Vegas we will spend a few days at the Grand Canyon, then to Holbrook, AZ to see the Petrified Forest and the Meteor Crater. From there we head to Phoenix (actually Mesa) for a few days to...
