May 30, 2012 - Catching You Up

John is finally getting a little bit better each day. No double vision looking to the left or straight ahead. But, once he begins to look to the right, the double vision begins again. He is still dizzy but not as bad. He spends most of the day in our apartment, "convalescing" as he calls it. He has encouraged me to do what I want to do each day with my family. I make him promise me he will be a good boy and not go near the stairway. Late in the afternoon we go over to my daughter, Shannon's, for dinner. I've cooked a couple times but the...

May 23, 2012 - Update on John

John is still experiencing double vision and dizziness. From everything I've read, this can last for a few weeks. We are very careful about where he walks and what he does. We don't want him to fall. It's raining here this week. The weatherman says we'll get warmer temps and some sun at the end of the week. Today we head into Seattle for lunch with my son and his significant other and then go to my younger daughter's home to visit and have dinner (Jenny). I've only been able to see her once since we've been here. She's had to do a bit of...

May 20, 2012 - Day in the ER

No photos today. We spent a good portion of yesterday in the ER. John had been exhibiting signs of a stroke and even though he did not want to get checked out, I finally decided (after much prodding from my kids) that we'd better see what exactly was going on with my hubby. I'm glad we did, even though there's nothing that can be done to help John get better faster. He has a viral infection called Labrynthitis. It causes inflammation between the inner ear and the brain. That, in turn, causes dizziness, vomiting and double vision - all of...

May 14, 2012 - Mother's Day

We had a wonderful day yesterday with my family. My Grandson cooked his special spaghetti and meatballs in tomato/pesto sauce. My son in law made a delicious fruit salad. They also served garlic bread plus my Grandson made a chocolate cake for desert. The weather was warm and beautiful. I won't post anything, now, until we go someplace of interest. Thanks for coming along with us.

May 13, 2012 - Day 6

As with other states we've traveled through in the last 6 days, Washington has a variety of environments and scenes. Leaving Spokane on I90, the first part of the drive is similar to parts of Montana, Wyoming and even North Dakota. Flat (even though the elevation is over 2,000'), grain fields, or barren with sagebrush. But as the drive nears the Columbia River, there is a sense of something powerful about to appear. Most of you know I lived in Washington State the first 58 years of my life so these roads are very familiar, even though I...

Aug 10, 2010 - Bonney Lake, Washington

Tuesday, August 10, 2010 We began the last day of our Alaska Adventure by leaving Brookside Campsite at 8:40 am. It was 52˚, cloudy, and just beginning to sprinkle. We drove ¾ of a mile on Highway 97 and then turned right onto Highway 1. This was a new route for us. We took Highway 1 instead of Highway 99 that we had taken on our way to Alaska. Highway 99 was an extremely difficult road with switchbacks and steep descends. Highway 1 was like a hilly desert. A few miles from Cache Creek a fox ran across the highway in front of us. Either we...

Jun 22, 2010 - New TV

Tuesday, June 22, 2010 Welcome to our Alaska Adventure! Kevin convinced us to do another online journal. He found a Google free site for us. Thank you, Kevin! Please excuse any typos or grammatical errors you may see. I am writing these entries quickly so I can hopefully keep up with each day. On this date we were up early so Rick could take the motorhome to Camping World in Fife by 9:00 am. They were going to install a new TV. He made it on time. Before leaving the parking lot after it was installed, he put up MotoSat to see if the TV...

Oct 12, 2009 - Soccer in the Northwest

We got back over to the west side of the Cascades in plenty of time to catch a couple of Talon and Navy’s soccer games. I am always in awe of the energy our grandchildren have. From the basketball and football down in Florida to the lacrosse and soccer up here in the Northwest. I can’t believe “I” actually had that kind of energy at one time. Albeit, it was a very long time ago. Lois and I have really enjoyed visiting with all the “Northwest” kids this summer. Here are just a few pictures of Navy and Talon playing soccer.
