John and I always like to find an out-of-the-way spot for the major holidays during the summer months. Most RV parks and campgrounds that are in destination places will be full and reserved well in advance. When we make plans for our summer travel, the first thing we do is decide where we will be on Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day. We do not like being in busy places that are packed. -- This year, for Fourth of July, we will be in Bay Center, Washington. Pretty Damn Nice!

Sep 23, 2011 - Friday, Bay Center, WA (248 miles) - Bay Center/Willapa Bay KOA

After a wonderful few days with Susan and Paul, we had breakfast together and said our goodbyes. Driving south past Seattle, Bellevue, Tacoma and Olympia, we encountered the most congested areas we had seen on this trip. It seemed about as bad as driving south on I-95 in the North East, past Washington, D.C. We were very happy to arrive at our nice and serene destination, Bay Center, on the Willapa Bay. We took a short walk to the beach with Rusty and Ranger.

We had a great visit with the Shotwells in Bay Center - Steve, Andi, Ray and Tom. We just stayed one night and didn't get any pictures (!), but we did have a good time talking about hunting, fishing, logging and oysters! Hopefully we'll see all the Shotwells in Alaska at some point, but if not, maybe we can meet them in Hawaii sometime, or even Bay Center again. Thanks for the hospitality, Shotwells, and also for the canned sturgeon, and smoked geoduck. I don't even think we were to Longview before those were munched down.

Aug 16, 2007 - Port Angeles, WA, to Bay Center, WA

A leisurely drive along the coast via U.S. Highway 101 was just what the doctor ordered! Beautiful! It was cool and drizzly nearly all day, but the scenery was great. We drove through several small towns where the main industry was oystering, and stayed at the KOA Bay Center, WA. Deer right in the campground! Enjoy!
