Oct 7, 2017 - More on "How to Get Home in One Piece"

Sat 07 morning & it is our first "non sunny" morning. The sun came & went throughout the day,it started sprinkling & is 58 degrees so Fall is here. The hot water heater quit, the radio quit so it wouldn't be a proper trip unless something went kaput! Last night on the road we spent at Columbia Riverfront RV Park. Can see the Columbia River from the site. Sunday Oct. 08 we are up to overcast, light rain & 53 degrees for the last leg home. We stopped at Scatter Creek Rest Stop to dump our tanks and only have 75 miles to get to Seattle so we...

Aug 31, 2016 - Auburn, WA - Game Farm Wilderness Campground

Our trip from Montesano to Auburn, WA was a 86 mile journey over four lane road, about half of it Interstate 5. With the exception of about five miles of bad congestion through a large construction zone, the driving was pretty easy. We are staying at the Game Farm Wilderness Park Campground which is a very well run city park. We have a very large site with 30 amps of electricity, water and a dump on the way out. We get very good Verizon but the trees are too dense and in the wrong place to get the satellite from the roof or portable dish....

Jul 9, 2014 - Hints and Tips for the Full Timer

1. Spend $10 each to purchase Senior Access passes from the Feds. You get free entry into all federal parks, monuments, and forests, and half-price camping. I hesitate to guess-timate how much money we have saved while on the road, but I have to believe it's nearing a thousand dollars as of this writing. ---- Update : As of 2018, the cost is now $80. --- 2. Take time to relax. You will enjoy your travels much more if you are not exhausted. your coach is your HOME, and you must spend some time relaxing there, just as you would in a brick and...

Jun 17, 2014 - The journey begins for real.

It's been a trying journey. After making the decision to get out of the rain in a motorhome, we put the old homestead on the market and began selling off virtually everything we had accumulated in 45 years. Craigslist was a real blessing, and our marketing efforts were rewarded quickly, leaving us in a house devoid of furnishings - except the basics - recliners, bed, and TV. After 60 days, a nice couple finally made us an offer, closed escrow (June 6th,) and moved in right away. It was both hard and easy to leave the old place - scene of...

Aug 2, 2013 - Camp Berachah MMAP Project #2

Today we arrived for our second MMAP project here at Camp Berachah. It was a nice camp and we had lots of fun. While Tom was doing construction Debbie was helping out in the kitchen. They served us lunch/dinner Monday - Friday but it is camp food. Lots of chicken McNuggets, corn dogs, mac and cheese, etc. But on Friday it was a cookout. That is where the families of the campers come to pick up their children who have been at camp all week. So we had hamburgers, hotdogs, potato salad, baked beans and for desert sherbert. That was nice. At...

Jun 28, 2011 - Finally

Left the RV resort in Black Diamond, WA early this morning and headed for the Ford dealership in Auburn, WA to get some warranty work done on the coach. After they checked it out, they said they needed to order a part and it wouldn't be in until tomorrow morning. They told us we could stay dry camp on their lot overnight and even hooked us up to 30 amp electricity. We left for awhile to complete the papers I still needed signed for my condo sale. It has been a nightmare getting it all done as notaries here don't seem to want to witness your...

May 15, 2011 - To the Races

We spent the morning cleaning house and plotting our trip home. Sandy and Pat came over in the early afternoon and we all went to the horse races. The racetrack, Emerald Downs, is here in Auburn. There is indoor seating so we were warm and dry even though it was cold and rainy outside. It was Bill's second horse race and Sue's first so we were novices. And, as beginner's luck would have it, we came away winners. It was really fun. After the races, we went to a Mexican place for dinner which was very good then came home. It has been great...

May 14, 2011 - Touring the Countryside

Sandy picked us up at 8:15am and we met Jamie for breakfast at a neat cafe in town. The food was delicious and we enjoyed seeing Jamie again. When we finished, Jamie went to work and the rest of us went back to the city to visit the Klondike Museum. This is a National Park Service Museum and it details the journeys of five men who braved the hardships of the Klondike Gold Rush. One of the five is Great Grandpa Shape. It was neat to follow his journey at the different stations and learn more about the life and rough times that he and the...

May 13, 2011 - Touring Seattle with Sandy and Jamie

This morning we went out for fuel and did some shopping at Kohl's. A little before noon, Sandy and Jamie came and we took off. First we stopped at an old drive-in in Auburn and had lunch. Then we drove to Bremerton which is across Puget Sound from Seattle. Along the way, we had glimpses of Mount Rainier. When you can see the mountain here they say "the mountain is out". It was pretty hazy but could be seen. Bremerton has a Naval Shipyard and a pretty marina with some unusual fountains. From Bremerton, we caught the ferry across the sound to...

We made a stop at the Mount St. Helens Visitor Center in Silver Lake, just off I-5. They have a really great film showing the eruption and displays outlining the days up to it and the changes since. It was very interesting. On a clear day, you can see the mountain from...
