Apr 29, 2019 - Virginia

Another 200 miles and 4 hours brings us to Virginia Beach. We dropped off I-95 just after crossing into Virginia and took US-58 up through Norfolk and into Virginia Beach. We're just North of the beach/hotel/honky tonk area in First Landing State Park. It's a little expensive for a state park, but we've got a secluded site where we can't even see the neighbors. We're back right up to the dunes and it's just a short walk to the beach. Today is way too cold and damp for the beach with temps in the low 50's. Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny...

Winter2018-2019

Mar 25, 2019 - On Our Way!

Left the house around 6am for the long flight to Japan. Arrived early in Atlanta (hooray) and will depart at 12:25 but with the 14 hour flight and 13 hour time change we won't arrive until late tomorrow afternoon at Narita airport. Then we'll take the express train to Tokyo Station and from there a short walk to our hotel. Fortunately we're arriving a day before the tour starts so we'll have a day to try to adjust to the time change. Looks like there are only 12 people on our tour with two tour guides.

Nov 5, 2018 - Little Creek Campground (11/1 - 11/30/18)

We arrived in Virginia Beach on November 1st. This time we were in site #42, the same site we had the very first time we stayed here. We spent the month of November so that we would be there for our daughter's birthday and Thanksgiving. We were able to spend time with our son and grandsons. For most of the time there, the weather wasn't the best. We had lots of rain and it was a bit colder than we like. We visited friends and Tim got to play golf. Thanksgiving was wonderful. We had the whole family, plus a friend of Joanne's (Tim's sister)....

May 8, 2018 - Little Creek Campground (5/1 - 5/10/18)

We had originally made a reservation at Northwest River Park in Chesapeake because we couldn't get a place here. I checked again before we left Georgia and was lucky enough to get a place through May 11th. This is the first time we have been here since January. The site we had this time is our favorite so far, #35. We also spent a couple of days in Tim's sister's driveway. We were in VB for my birthday, May 7th. Had lots of fun! We were able to see some of our grandsons' baseball games. Also, my grandbunny had his 10th birthday on May 3rd....

Mar 17, 2018 - Little Creek Campground (11/15/17 - 1/9/18)

We are back from our most amazing trip to London!! We had an absolutely wonderful time! Highly recommend it as a place to visit. While there we spent time with our kids and grandkids, sister(-in-law) and friends. Tuesday nights were usually dedicated to Trivia Night at the Brass Bell, one of our favorite local eateries. We had a group of friends most nights, but one time we had to join our daughter's group on millennials. I think maybe we were helpful on some of the questions!! We had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner at Tim's sister,...

Dec 5, 2017 - Little Creek Campground (10/25 - 11/2/17)

I know it has been a long time since I updated, but when we are just sitting in one place it doesn't seem as exciting. We arrived back in Virginia Beach on October 25th. This was our time to spend with family and friends. We did take a two week trip to London in November which was spectacular. This time we were unable to get either of the sites at Little Creek Campground that we had wanted, but ended up liking the site we had better. We were in site #12 which gave us lots of room on both sides of the RV. There was also ample parking. We...

Sep 24, 2017 - First Landing State Park (9/16 - 9/21/17)

My apologies for being so tardy in updating. I get wrapped up in what I am doing (or not doing, being lazy) and just don't get my duties completed. We spent a week in Virginia Beach visiting family and friends. This time we got to enjoy staying at First Landing State Park. We stayed in site #8 as we couldn't get #7. The weather was much better than when we were there in May. The rain and winds gave us a much desired break. We actually got to spend quite a lot of time on the beach. It was wonderful! Our first night we had a cookout at...

Jun 4, 2017 - Little Creek / First Landing State Park (4/24 - 5/13/17)

We are back on the road again. I am a bit late updating, but I am going to try to catch up. We spent about 3 weeks in Virginia Beach. We were able to spend time with our family and friends, but the weather just didn't cooperate for us this time. When it wasn't raining, the wind was howling. Sometimes it was doing both simultaneously! Our first week was spent at Little Creek Amphibious Base. We like staying there, but we didn't have a place for the whole time. We spent our last 2 weeks at First Landing State Park right on the Chesapeake Bay....

Dec 27, 2016 - Virginia Beach, VA

Hello everyone! I know that I was supposed to update more often, but I have been quite busy these last couple of months. First, I hope you all had a Happy Thanksgiving and a very Merry Christmas! Ours were great here with the family. I did all the cooking for both meals, but that was fun to see all the food enjoyed. We were also privileged to have our dear friends, Jess and Vicki (Dejarnette) Mann with us for Christmas dinner. Thanks for the DELICIOUS fruit salad. I have spent the last 5-1/2 weeks staying with my sister-in-law, Joanne, who...

Oct 31, 2016 - Virginia Beach (10/22 - 1/16/17)

Again I say thanks to all of my devoted followers. I know that I have been very lax in keeping up with my writings over the last couple of months. There has really been a lot going on and I didn't always have or make the time. I sincerely apologize. We are now back in Virginia Beach. We will be here until the middle of January at which time we will be heading south for the winter like the birds!! Even since we arrived here there has been so much going on that we haven't had much time to socialize, but I am hoping that things will settle...

Jul 21, 2016 - USS Wisconsin and the beach

This morning I got up and went back to my old unit to pick up a unit ball cap that they were giving me. And then I was off to see a museum in Norfolk harbor. This is a large museum with one floor of interesting things about the sea, mostly geared for children, but still some good information. On the second floor was a large area talking about the Navy and about the battleship Wisconsin. Now this was very interesting, they had a lot of material to see, several movies to watch, and then when you were done with that, you walked out a door,...

Jul 20, 2016 - Visiting the Red Horse

This morning I am going over to the 203rd Red Horse Squadron to talk with the current Training Manager of the unit I helped start. We had a wonderful talk, him telling me about what was happening now with the unit, and me telling him about the beginning of the unit and what we had to go through. I had brought several items that I had kept from my time there, pictures and old copies of unit bulletins. He took me on a tour of all of the facilities that had been built for the unit, which was about 15 of them. They were using none of the...
