Nov 11, 2012 - First Landing State Park, Virginia Beach
Veteran’s Day Weekend – Nov. 11-12, 2012 We are at First Landing State Park in Virginia Beach Virginia, right at Cape Henry on the Chesapeake Bay. If you are looking for a state park with one lane roads that have 90 degree turns and require a lot of tree brushing to maneuver, then, this park is for you. Because it was off season, only G loop was open and there were only a few sites big enough for us. I had made a reservation but had not been told there would be limited space or that there was no dump station that was functioning. The map of...

Nov 1, 2012 - Day 109 - Hampton to Virginia Beach
The Tidewater Express guys start work early and had us up and out by 7:30 am. We found a Waffle House for a very good, very big, very cheap breakfast. We then headed out to Newport News to have a look around there. We went back to pick up the bus around noon. It was completed, no problems with the alignment, no new problems cropped up in the inspection checklist, and they even lubed up all the slides for nothing and gave us two t-shirts. Pretty good customer relations for being late completing the job. We went back to the Virginia Beach...

Oct 30, 2012 - Day 107 - from Petersburg to Virginia Beach, Virginia
We survived the storm with only rain and some wind but really not bad. We called Virginia Beach campground, and Hampton shop for the RV service to see how they had fared and both were operational so we headed that way. We did not encounter any problems on the drive, no downed trees on the highway, but some off the road, lots of water in the ditches and on the fields. We are now in an agricultural area with fields of cotton and something very different looking that we assume are peanut crops. We have seem several peanut stores on the way....

DAY 31 and 32 OF OUR BUCKET LIST TOUR VIRGINIA BEACH -- Oceanfront, great weather, saw many dolphins swimming by. Relaxing and reading the book I have been carrying around for the last month without opening a page because of our exciting journey and the wonderful sights that we have seen on the way. What a way to end our trip! Virginia Beach is basically deserted, but there are some folks here . . . Mostly our age. Probably more crowded on the weekend days. Ate at a neat place called Abbey Lane, a Beatles themed restaurant/club with much...

Ahhh, Virginia Beach! We do love it here at the Sea Mist Campground at the Dam Neck Navy Annex. This our first time staying at the new park; it's really nice. And we can hear the waves crashing just over the dunes behind our site! As well as a time to rejuvenate and get ready for our winter gig back in Milton, WV, this was a time to reconnect with old friends. Our first night in was Chris's birthday and she really, really wanted mongolian barbecue for dinner. So off we went to DW's Mongolian Grill in VA Beach and met up with our good...

Sep 21, 2012 - Headed to Virginia Beach
Arrived Friday afternoon in Virginia Beach, to visit Sandi's cousin Maureen and her husband Jim. We first had to stop in Portsmouth to get our ripped canvas repaired. Then we had a yummy dinner made by Maureen. Saturday we went on a boat ride on their pleasure boat. We had lunch and a yummy Bloody Mary at Bubba's Restaurant where we could tie up at the dock right next to the restaurant. Then we cruised the canals right there in Virginia Beach, the houses were huge and awesome! Again we had dinner at Maureen and Jim's house. Sunday was a...

We traveled to Virginia Beach to spend an afternoon with Matt, Fallon, Gabe and Logan along with Dan and Monica before heading to Lynchburg. We called the day before to make the arrangements, given them our ETA and the campground that we plan to stay. We have camped at this campground before and I was familiar as to site we were staying. As I approached the site a young boy with a push scooter was owning the site with his moves. I stopped and wandered what to do next, out comes Matt from the adjacent site, SURPRISE. They had pre-arranged to...

Ahhhh! The smell of ocean air, the sound of the surf, and, oh, yeah, jet noise (the sound of freedom!). Our campground is located at Naval Air Station, Oceana, and jet noise is just a fact of life here. Not too bad unless 2 or 3 fly over at the same time, but we do appreciate that sound of freedom! It is so bloomin' hot here right now and there are fires at the Great Dismal Swamp, so it is NOT the time to be outside much. But we are back in a very familiar place and are so excited about being able to reconnect with all our old friends. We...

Jul 15, 2011 - Carolina Sadness
Good morning EAST COAST and the Atlantic Ocean! Today we awaken to a lovely ocean breeze and decide to head without the RV in the Jeep to the beach to spend the day. Now, we leave with just us – no towels – no swimsuits, nothing. What were we thinking? Who knows, but we arrive and the beach is beautiful so I plunk myself down and lay out catching some son while the kids and Bill walk to the bridge and back. The water is warm and feels great and it’s really cool to be looking out at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and tunnel. After a couple of...

Jun 24, 2011 - Made it to VB. On to Cape Hatteras
Long day yesterday. After a bad nights sleep worrying about my generator, I got up at 4. Made it out of Charleston about 9. Stopped at the State Capital and took some pictures. Worried about not finding fresh water for my tank. Boondocking may be for the birds. The noise of the generator and AC together is very annoying. Went on the WV Turnpike. I found out the motorhome costs 50 cents($2.50)more than cars. Got very sleepy and pulled over to nap near Lewisburg WV on i64. It was a wonderful rest. This is an advantage to traveling this way....
