May 2, 2015 - Christmas in May

We left home this morning at about 1000. Getting Ringo into Winnie wasn't as difficult as I though it might. Once Sue got him out of the carrier and gave him a few kitty treats, he was under the covers on the bed in his normal position. He stayed there until we got to Shenandoah Valley Campground. We stayed here a couple of years ago on the way to NC for an Escapees rally over Easter break. They have these giant domestic bunnies that have the run of the place. When I drove into the campground I was surprised at how crowded it was. I was...

2015 Texas Trek

Aug 14, 2013 - We're not in NY anymore :-(

I guess I clicked my shiny red shoes a little too hard this morning because we now find ourselves four states away from beautiful upstate New York! But, I have to say that we went out in style as Gary & Penny took us on a tour of both sides of Skaneateles Lake yesterday (one of the finger lakes.) Talk about scenery!! Unfortunately, I didn't get any pics because we were moving, but in all honesty, they don't do it justice anyway. You just have to be there...so go!!! We also spent some time walking the village of $$$ Skaneateles $$$, and the...

Summer 2013 Stories

Apr 26, 2011 - Shenandoah Valley

We're taking the "inland route" through York and Gettysburg, PA to I81 in the Shenandoah Valley. I wanted to scout out some places for our summer trip. No Camp Walmart this trip (Sue doesn't like not having electricity for the night). We're staying at the Shenandoah River Campground, right along the river. It's a nice place with 4 hot tubs, a waterfall, and some of the biggest rabbits (domestic but running loose) I've ever seen. There is alot to do in the area so I think we'll come back here this summer and spend some time. You may have...

2011 Easter Vacation

Apr 17, 2011 - Shenandoah Valley Campground, Virginia

Hi Y'all Well I don't think my old Mom would have ever heard me say this, but I'm fully pleased to actually write my following statement for all to see. "We are truly blessed !, I do not know why the Lord sees fit to look after Rita and I the way he does, I don't think that we are that deserving.....But he does!" We stayed last at Rocky Top CG, it looked as if the weather could have been bad the next day. We decided that if there was rain with wind associated with it, we would stay the second day. The rain had no wind associated with it and...

Oct 4, 2009 - Another Kick Bay Sunday

Today was another bright, crisp fall day here in Virginia. By 11:00 am, most of the camp had emptied out, leaving those of us who don't have to get up in the morning for work or school. Tonight there are about 12 rigs here in this large park and it seems more like RVing than camping now. -- I spent the late morning reading the paper - actually, the Sunday paper here is not very big, so I only got to read it for about half an hour - bummer. John was all set to watch football when the cable suddenly went out. The main reason we chose this...

Pretty Damn Nice!

Oct 2, 2009 - Camping in the Shenandoah Valley

We had another short travel day today, about sixty miles south down through the Shenandoah Valley to the little town of Verona. We will be staying here for the weekend at the Shenandoah RV Park nestled in the rolling green hills near an Alpaca farm. The park is in a beautiful setting next to a river. We were hoping to get a spot right on the river, but those spots are for the tent campers. However, when we got to our spot, we were both disappointed to see that it was next to a large family with lots of kids, bikes, toys and a dog who had...

Pretty Damn Nice!

Oct 20, 2008 - Heading Home

October 20, 2008 We’re going to tell you about the week before we left, so bear with us. First, we had a most enjoyable visit from past neighbors (Buckingham people, you should recognize these people) and current Workampers, Betsy & Rick Hubbell. They had workamped in Maine this year and on their way to overnight at Rick’s sister’s house in S. Windsor, CT, they came over Wednesday morning for about 2 hours. What a nice, nice visit we had from them. Friday night, we had our first weekend of site decorating, trick o’ treating, costume...

Oct 17, 2008 - Traveling Across Virginia

Writing on the road to Verona, VA (west of Charlottesville, VA) I’m trying to catch up on our blog on the road today. Without Wifi in Newport News, I’m a few days behind. We had a great day with our friend Charlie seeing the sights in Norfolk area. Charlie is retired Navy so we were able to drive around on the Navel Base. Very interesting. We were out looking at one of the markers on the base on the edge of the bay and saw a school of dolphins swimming off shore. That was a plus. Grabbed a bite at the commissary food court and then headed...

Apr 24, 2008 - The Beautiful Shenandoah Valley

This has been a very interesting drive day. It started aqs soon as we got up, decamped, and otherwise straightened we drove up to the Park office and partook in a free waffle breakfast (we had to pay for the coffee?) After hitting the road for perhaps 10 minutes Rita had the urge to go shopping since we had been reading the Billboards (Like Pedro's 'South of the Border') for two days for 'RJ's' apparently they sold everything! It was quite a complex! After an hour or so we again assumed out today's assignment. We wanted to avoid all the...

Nov 10, 2006 - Shenandoah Valley KOA

The day begin with the usual getting the kids off to school, followed by running a few errands, the banking and picking a few hard to find Christmas items early. While out, we stopped long enough to enjoyed fried ravioli and a chicken fettuccini sub, which was a most excellent lunch. I (Dan) had fried ravioli and Karen enjoyed a chicken fettuccini sub. The very best and only fried ravioli that I've ever eaten - it was great. After picking up our son from school and returning home we loaded the RV. stop was off RT17 near Bealeton to pick up...
