Aug 7, 2012 - To Virginia's Eastern Shore

Knowing that today was a relatively short drive (about 4 hours), we slept in, had a leisurely breakfast, caught up on the Olympic results we missed last night ... and finally got on the road a 9:58 a.m. Most of the trip was in the lush coastal countryside of Virginia, with brilliant Crepe Myrtle of every possible shade of red and pink that you can even imagine! The initial highlight of the ride was the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. This was a first for both of us ... and was really quite exciting, even if we did have to pay a $28.00 toll....

Nov 9, 2007 - Del-Mar-Va-lous

November 7-8; Delmarva Peninsula: From Mount Vernon, our itinerary took us to the "Delmarva Peninsula". The route included driving I 495 which is part of the Washington DC Outer Beltway. I waited until 9:30 to let some of the commuter traffic clear, and made the trip with no incidents - just a few white knuckles. Actually had some polite drivers, including a guy who let me in when I just about missed a turn lane, then protected my flank as I merged onto the freeway and got up to speed. We glimpsed the Washington Monument and the Capitol...
