Jun 27, 2013 - Shenandoah Day 2

We started out on this day's adventure with a bright sunny sky. We got in the park and decided to find a waterfall we could hike to. We found one that was only 1.5 miles round trip so we thought this would work. Well we started out good. There was an incline which kept getting steeper as we went. About halfway down they had took logs and put across the trail to form a kind of stairs where it was steeper. This should have given us a clue as to how it would be coming back. Well we finally made it all the way down to the falls, which was quite...

Spring Trips 2013

Jun 26, 2013 - Luray Caverns

We are now in Heavenly Acres RV park. This is not what I would have named it. It does have potential, that is about as nice as I can get. But it is cheap and it is full hook up so I am not complaining. We are here for 3 days which means we have 2 days to see the sights. We used our first day to see Luray Caverns. As part of the entrance fee you also can see their Buggy and Car Museum so we did that first. I have always wanted to ride in a horse drawn sled so I told Larry that I did find the sled in the museum but there was no horse. Oh well...

Spring Trips 2013

Oct 15, 2012 - Monticello & Shenandoah Valley NP

Arrived here yesterday at the Heavenly Acres (rustic) campground (Passport America). Convenient location and a bargain compared to other parks in the area. Took a drive into the NP to look at the leaves and the vistas. Today, we went to Monticello. Thomas Jeffersons home. What a place and what a larger than life person. There just weren't enough hours in a day for all he wanted to learn and accomplish. The mansion is filled with creative ideas. Beautiful plantation.

Jul 11, 2009 - Off to Heavenly Acres

Arrived at camp on Sat. afternoon and checked in. Got our spot #5, a LONG pull through for my SHORT camper...:) After hooked up we walked around the park. Very nice, many upgrades in progress. They have 3 train cabooses you can rent, very neat looking. We went swimming, a hay ride at 9:00pm was fun around the park. Had a great time, even took our dog this time.

The Rockwood's Trips

Oct 30, 2008 - It's heartbreaking

The best history lesson yet - Thursday, October 30 It got down to 29 last night, but we’re getting used to that. We got up to a bright sunshiny day and took a 40 mile drive through some of Virginia’s most beautiful back country. Our destination today is Montpelier, the home of James Madison. Montpelier is about 30 miles from Monticello, and Jefferson and Madison were good friends. So good that Monticello’s guest bedroom has a special storage space built into the wall to hold Dolly Madison’s hats. The Madison’s visited Jefferson often, and...
