As we crossed over the Virginia border, heading for our evening stop at Stoney Creek RV Resort in Greenville, Hazel was looking at the map and said "Ron, it looks like we'll only be about 50 miles from Schuyler, where the Walton's lived". This was an opportunity, one of those "Bucket List" things we could cross off. Our kids grew up watching The Waltons every week on television, a rare show that both parents and kids enjoyed. Jun 6, 2010 - Walton's Mountain, and more

We took time off from our President's area visiting, to go a few miles the other way to a little town called Schuyler, which is now known as Walton's Mountain. It's where the Hamner family lived, went to school and worked, and where Earl Hamner Jr. wrote his original novels about his family which became the movies and TV show of the Waltons. The local school where the children graduated has now closed and been turned into a "Waltons" museum, all about the original family members, the cast members who played them, the original locations used...

Oct 3, 2008 - A flash from the past

By word of mouth we were told by a guide from Monticello, go to the Frontier Culture Museum so we did. We were up bright and early, and out the door again. The Frontier Culture Museum consists of 5 homes. Original buildings from England, Ireland, Germany and the Valley of Virgina were documented, dismantled moved and restored at the Museum. There were costumed interpreters to welcome us at each farm. They explained the daily life and invited us to participate with things that they were doing.
