Dec 21, 2016 - Signing off for the year

We got home October 9th and with only light rain and a welcome tail wind. We had originally planned on stopping near Ashville, but the RV parks were full due to the storm, so we went west to Franklin and stayed at the Great Outdoors RV Resort, where we worked last summer. They had one spot open and only for one night. Plenty of room the next night in GA, where we were well below the storm. We have been busy getting settled back into the Sun City life which has kept us hopping for the past week. We think this year may have been our last...

Oct 6, 2016 - Salem, Virginia - just outside of Roanoke

Today was one of those chance special days. We decided to spend 2 nights in Salem, Virginia to give the hurricane a chance to settle on its direction. Unfortunately, it looks like it will be doing a loop and go back south before going out to sea. Anyway, at the Virginia Welcome Ctr. we found a brochure on the D-Day National Memorial and were off to check it out. It is relatively new, opened in the early 2000’s and is not government managed. It is a not for profit educational organization, run by volunteers. We were treated with a guided...

Apr 14, 2014 - Salem, Virginia.

Sep 30, 2013 - Salem, VA

Day 49 - Salem, VA 9/30/2013 We have decided to skip Blackwater Falls State Park and the Natural Bridge in Salem VA. We had a headlight go out on the truck, Bob took it to a dodge dealer to get it fixed this morning, so we left later than normal today. We arrived safely in Salem at the Dixie Caverns Campground. We were in early enough to go on the tour. Yes, I got Bob underground once again! It was an interesting tour, very damp and cool up there. Yes I said up there, this cavern is in a mountain, all uphill rather than down hill like...

2013 Fall Colors

Jun 5, 2013 - Sevierville, TN to Salem, VA

We woke up to sunny, blue skies again this morning. We're getting spoiled now.....no wind, no rain. Things are good! We were headed for Virginia and I wanted to stop in Abingdon, VA to visit the ladies (mother/daughter) who own the Copper Lantern Inn. They were very gracious and hospitable to my girlfriend, Jeana, when she was walking across the U.S. I had talked to them on the phone several times back then and now I had the chance to meet them. I had emailed them a couple of days ago and told then we'd be there on June 4th or 5th. They...

Well, we managed to get to Memphis - stopped at the Memphis Visitors Center for some photos with Elvis (see photos) - then headed downtown to see Graceland. First we stopped by Walgreen's to replace the cooler that Swandella and Geselle broke... Had a blast visiting some sights but did not spend the $30+ each for tickets to tour Elvis' home.... then, on the road again. We stopped for a lunch at a great bar-b-que place called Nicks then continued on Rt 40 through Toad Suck, Arkansas and into Oklahoma then through several Indian Reservations....

Mar 28, 2012 - Day 2 - Salem, VA to Brownsville, TN

Greetings from somewhere in Tenn. in the Smokies-looking out for the bear. Had a quick bite to eat at Cracker Barrel then on the road toward Knoxville. Geselle and Swandella must have over snacked on the potato bacon cheese jalapeno egg roll looking thing we got yesterday because they broke the Styrofoam cooler they were sharing as a booster seat so they could see out of the windows. The trip so far has been very good. We just hit 1,000 miles (from home) around 8 pm this evening so we called it a day.... We're about 50 miles from Memphis...
