Wednesday, October 22, 2008 Skyline Drive/Blue Ridge Parkway, Virginia Otter Creek Campground (State Park) This was one of earliest “get away” mornings we have done in a long time! Our initial plan was to go to Radford, Va. via portions of the Skyline Drive and then the Blue Ridge Parkway. We did about 30 miles of the Drive and then cut over to I-81 and then hopped back onto the Blue Ridge and came across this gorgeous campground with a site just our size right next to the creek. Oct 2, 2007 - Blue Ridge Parkway... The next 60 miles

This morning we had to say good-by to our sweetheart, Malia and her beautiful travel companion Gypsy... For those of you that haven't been fortunate to meet Gypsy we can only tell you that you have missed meeting one of the most beautiful cats we have ever met.... Of course she just loved Bill.... All the gals do. We got back on the Blue Ridge Parkway and our first stop was at the James River Visitors Center..... The center wasn't open but we took our first hike of the day.... Awesome!!!! Is all that we can say. We continued on the Parkway...

The Beginning

Oct 25, 2006 - Roanoke and the Blue Ridge

The Appalachian Mountains rise into the Blue Ridge along the border of Virginia and West Virginia. We called upon our old friend Melanie in Roanoke and enjoyed her company and her delight in her recently adopted home in the valley just south of the Shenandoah where she had lived before. Roanoke is a picturesque city with all the amenities one might want. The Blue Ridge Parkway turns into the Skyline Drive at Charlottesville and both are paralleled by the Appalachian Trail.
