Aug 4, 2013 - Shanendoah National Park

8-4-13, Sunday; As I mentioned in yesterday’s blog, we are in the last two spaces up the hill in the park. The turnaround (road) is about 20 feet to the left of my unit. This morning, while finishing yesterday’s blog I saw motion outside the window through the day/shade. I raised the shade to see two full grown deer walking past the window. They were walking about grazing without a care in the world. I went outside to snap a couple of pictures, but they had moved away by the time I got outside. We got a late start to the Shenandoah National...

Aug 3, 2013 - Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia

7-30-13 thru 8-3-13 Tuesday; Today was a travel day, not a great distance but a few hours driving anyway. We left Manheim about 10:30, we were going to stop at a local garage as I am due for an oil change, but decided I didn’t have confidence in the guys running the place so we just passed them bye for another down the road somewhere. We booked 3 nights at the Artillery Ridge Campground just 1 mile from the Gettysburg battlefields. We changed our spots as we were too close to the front gate with all the activity and the primary...

Sep 20, 2012 - Virginia: Endless Caves

We are out of PA at last and staying in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. We have landed at a place called Endless Caves, at the base of Skyline Drive. This is an old resort dating from the 1920ies, when "rusticators" moved up from the southern cities to escape the summer heat. There are a series of caves here, which we did not visit (IMHO....caves are for bats, not people). But we loved the resort! Beautiful grounds; a new and well designed RV park; huge swimming pools; wonderful stone work; and a series of historic old...

Coast-to-Coast

Nov 16, 2009 - Just to let you know #4.

We arrived this afternoon in need of showers and a bit of TV and are staying tonight here at the Johnny Appleseed Rest/Motel. We've stayed here several times before and find it a very pleasant area. Would like to spend some time here in the summer. Summer.......would you believe it's been 21 deg. C ever since we left Concord??? Sun shining like crazy what a wonderful drive. Only one awaking moment today. We were involved in a traffic jam that delayed us about 30 minutes. A 5th wheel trailer had left the road somehow the truck was on its...

Nov 24, 2008 - We Have Finally Left for Texas.

Hi Gang ! We left the cottage at 8:15 am on Friday Morning. Heading for Summerside to a 9 am hair appointment for both of us (we wanted to look BEAUTIFUL for all our friends at Hatch). We had a light snowfall the day before, the dirt road leading from the house was icy. After five (5) attempts to unsuccessfully pull the trailer up the first hill, we finally broke down and phoned our son Jay in Summerside. "I'll be right out, Dad!" Rita and I again backed the rig to the base of the hill and tried twice again while we were waiting. No sense...

Jan 10, 2008 - The First Day of Our Journey

Hi Family and Friends, We left Amesbury this morning at 4:30am, in the dark of the night. Jack soon got into the groove of driving, so we decided to continue driving (11 hours in all) or 630 miles. We are now at a campground in New Market Virginia. We decided that a truck stop just wasn't going to cut it for our first long day. This campground is at the base of a mountain, and as we drove in we were greeted by a herd of deer. At 9:am tomorrow morning we have a guided tour of the Endless Caverns which are caves located right here at the...

Oct 3, 2007 - Frontier Culture Museum, Stauton, Virginia

If any of you are ever in the vicinity of Stauton, Virginia, please stop by this museum. You will not be sorry! This is one living history museum that has the most wonderful interpreters you could ever imagine. They have studied the era they are representing and can answer any and all questions! We spent several hours there and if anyone knows me, you know I could go back again and again! This museum has reconstructed five working farms from Germany 1710, Northern Ireland 1730, England 1690, Virginia 1850 and Virginia 1773. All of the...

Our Fall 2007 Trip

Jul 13, 2007 - We're Here

Mountain Valley KOA, Harrisonburg-New Market, VA We started our day with a cereal breakfast. However, as we were getting our day started we were watching television and they came across the news that a large accident on Highway 64 eastbound had happened and that the highway was closed from our exit to the next one. About the time this flashed on the news, we heard the sirens and a helicopter as the campground was not that far from the highway. We hurriedly made alternative plans and decided to take our time departing camp. When we did...
