Oct 21, 2010 - Shenandoah National Park: Skyline Drive
The Skyline Dive! The apex of the Blue Ridge Parkway and the most outstanding part. If you haven't driven any of this road, then this is where you need to start (work north to south). It is not Alaska, nor the North Cascade Highway, nor Rocky Mountain National Park.....but there is a tranquil and quiet beauty here that is unsurpassed. We are at a National Forest Service Campground, Sherando Lake. It is beautiful! This is a recreation area created by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the late 1930ies. As such, there are scenic views, wonderful stone works, great trails, and a restful ambiance. The latter, we needed, after four days on the road. We decided to just stay close to camp on our...Jump to full entry
