Jul 13, 2018 - Virginia

Virginia feels like a second home state since our daughters Jen and Vicki attended Virginia Tech. I can’t count the number of times we have driven the I-81 corridor in the past 20 years. I know every exit, where the best restaurants and gas stations are located and where the traffic is apt to back up and how to get around any congestion. With that in mind our first stop for gas was the Flying J truck stop just over the state line from West Virginia north of Winchester. Flying J truck stops are very popular with the RV crowd because most of...

Southwest trek

Sep 13, 2017 - Greenville VA – Stoney Creek Resort

Before heading south again, we took a side trip to Maryland and West Virginia. It added some miles to our day, but now we can say we’ve been to each of these states. We didn’t do anything except stop at the Welcome Centers where Bridget left her mark on each state. From our base at Stoney Creek Resort (it isn’t as impressive as it sounds), we headed up to Fredricksburg VA to check out the James Monroe Museum and Memorial Library. This was a very interesting little place. We got a lot of information from one of the ladies in the museum and...

Retired at Last!

Oct 16, 2013 - Civil War Stuff

Ah Virginia! This is the first time we've travelled in this state... er, commonwealth. The grass is bright green, the trees are all changing and the sky is blue with bright white clouds. We stopped mid-day at Stony Brook Campground in Greenville, VA, so we could do some sight-seeing in the Shenandoah Valley. After setting up camp, we drove to Lexington, VA, where we walked the downtown area and visited the Stonewall Jackson House.

Jun 24, 2013 - Beautiful Shenandoah

We drove up into the National Park today. There were lots of overlooks to stop at and take in the breathtaking scenery. It is a long winding road right in the middle of the park. They said there were bears and elk. We did see deer but nothing else. We stopped and ate lunch in the park where we watched some bikers trying to decide whether to leave a dry place and head out as there were dark threatening clouds. They went out to their bikes and put on their helmets and then stood there and looked at the sky and then took their helmets off and...

Spring Trips 2013

Jun 23, 2013 - Lower Edge of Shenandoah

Yesterday we move on to Greenville, Virginia. We have joined Passport America, a group that gives you 50% discount on selected campgrounds. That is where we are heading. The name of the campground is Stoney Creek. It is quite large with a 16 acre lake and a store with a large gathering room where that have bands and such. There is a lot of full time campers in this park. They have settled in with flowers, storage sheds and even some fencing for their pets. We kind of stand out being the only come and go people in the immediate vicinity....

Spring Trips 2013

Oct 19, 2012 - Stoney Creek Resort, Greenville, Virginia

Today we drove to Stoney Creek Resort in Greenville, Virginia where we'll park for a few days and do some sightseeing in the area. Setting up wasn't easy. We had trouble leveling and the loose rock on the uphill site caused the truck to spin rear wheels several times. We finally managed to get it done though. After we were settled, we decided to take a walking tour of the campground. It was all decorated for Halloween and some people really went all out so it was fun walking around to see all the decorations.

Our 2012 Travels

Jun 28, 2012 - Movin' on Up

Yesterday we took an eight hour drive from northern Georgia to mid Virginia, just southwest of Charlottsburg. The drive was 10+ through the Blue Ridge mountain area and up along the Smoky Mountains. We are in another Coast to Coast campground, and as all places we've been to, it has it's good and bad points. We saw two deer as we arrived (good point) and the store/office/lodge is new and very nice (good point.) The site they had originally assigned to us didn't have full hookups so we asked to be moved. Thank goodness we did as we are...

Celebration2012

Jul 6, 2010 - Stoney Creek Resort

We had some late sleepers in the camper today. Clay and Autumn didn’t get up until 10:30am, just in time for lunch. This is the latest that they have slept on the whole trip. After eating lunch the kids and I went up to the office which is about ¼ mile from the camper. There the kids swam in the pool, played volleyball or should I say tried, played Ping Pong, miniature golf and it was 3pm before we got back to the camper. Bo thought we were never coming back. We ate supper and then I took them to the beach lake swimming. They liked swimming...

Jul 5, 2010 - Travel Day

Travel day today. We got up and got the camper ready to go and then went to the Amish Farm next to the campground and got fresh corn (12 ears for $2.50), tomatoes, blueberries, and blueberry pie. We left the campground at 9:30am, stopped got diesel, and then ate breakfast at Jennies Diner on Hwy 30. The breakfast was the best we’ve had on the trip. So after all that we really didn’t get on the road until around 11ish. We are staying the next two nights at Stony Creek Resort in Greenville, VA on site # 103 full hookup at $18 per night. This...

DCA was sone. The annual membership meeting was held on Thursday. DCA final classes were judged on Friday and Saturday followed by the dinner meeting Saturday night. We had said goodbye to our friends from Wisconsin last night as they were leaving very early on Sunday morning. We left about 10:00 a.m. for our nextshort trip. I had found a campground (Stony Creek) in Greenville, VA...

Oct 17, 2007 - Cape Cod, MA to Greenville, VA

Hello Friends and Family: Hope everyone is doing well? We are having a great time. We have so much to tell you about. We left Cape Code on October 9 and drove to Lake Adventure Community (campground) in Milford, PA. It was a rather odd campground - only had 16 open campsites, the remainder (which were many) were campers, 5th wheels, etc., that were there permanently and almost everyone had left for the season. The grounds were covered with leaves, we felt very isolated, we arrived right at dusk, and later that night it really started to...
