Nov 10, 2012 - INTERLUDE is unchained. Day One!

November 10, 2012 Departure: 8:00 AM - York River Yacht Haven, Gloucester Point, VA Weather: Sunny - High 65/37 Winds: Light and Variable Hi All! INTERLUDE is officially unchained! This will be our 6th trip. I can’t believe it! We are very lucky to be able to go cruising again. Life is good! Yesterday was a very busy day loading many dock carts full of “stuff” onto the boat. We finally got settled in around 10pm last night. It’s amazing how much can fit in a 38 foot boat! Of course, it is a good thing that Tom is a minimalist! It gives me...

Nov 3, 2012 - Schedule is set!

Hi All! Well it looks like we will be "getting out of Dodge" this Friday, November 9! The boat is looking good and Tom has been working very hard to make her spiffy! She should be splashed in the water on Monday and then the moving in process will start in earnest. I'm starting to get excited about heading out again now that we have a set date. Now the questions of what do I NEED versus what I WANT to bring looms large today. Always a difficult decision. I still bring too much but each year I pare it down a little. There was a guy named...

Oct 29, 2012 - A visit from Sandy

Hi All! Hurricane Sandy came to visit us today. So far we have had winds around 35mph and flooding down at the marina and river areas. The shore areas will be hit hard. My brother Ed lives in New Jersey and they are already getting pounded and Sandy will be with them for about 18 more hours. The beach towns are flooded with more surge expected. This storm has the lowest barometer reading of all the hurricanes about 940. We will keep everyone in our thoughts and prayers and hope everyone is safe. There is already one casualty. The HMS Bounty...

Oct 2, 2012 - INTERLUDE is now on the 'hard'

Hi All! INTERLUDE has been pulled and is now residing on the "hard" at York River Yacht Haven Marina. Tom was amazed by how many barnacles are on the propeller. He said that he didn't know if the boat was going to move far enough to get into the sling for hauling! :-) I am starting my list of things to bring aboard. It's always a major decision what you want to bring vs what you need to bring. Space is limited and usually I have to compromise on how much of my "stuff" can come aboard...always a traumatic moment! So now it's time to give...

Sep 15, 2012 - If the birds are flying south, why aren't we heading south too?

Hi All! Can't believe it's that time again to get INTERLUDE ready to head South! I will try to keep up my blog this year. Now that everyone has facebook it seems more people see our trip that way but I will see how it goes one more year. Tom is incredibly busy getting the spec house finished so we can leave. I finished my season at Water Country USA so now I can start getting "stuff" ready to go. We haven't ventured far this summer. Just up and down the road between Williamsburg and Deltaville. We do plan to go to the Annapolis boat show in...

May 22, 2012 - Last post for the season

Hi all! Well it is time to put the blog away for the summer. I will start a new blog next season it will be called: www.mytripjournal.com/sailinginterlude12 Hope to see you there! We are planning to go back to the Bahamas in October 2012 and probably will leave the boat in Fort Pierce in the spring (May 2013) and not bring it back to Virginia. There are many pros and cons to this so time will tell what you really do. The trip this year as terrific. The weather was wonderful and we were able to catch up with old friends and make new ones....

Sep 17, 2011 - We must be leaving...the boat cards are made!

Hi All! Looks like we are serious about heading out again this year. I have made up the boat cards...so the commitment is made! lol We use boat cards to hand out to friends we meet along the way. It's always fun to collect them and see how they change from year to year. Here is a picture of the front...remember to double click on the photo to make it larger. Tom has been doing the "dirty deeds" of getting INTERLUDE ready for the trip. Seems it always involves doing something with the head, reinforcing the sails, and all that good stuff....

Oct 30, 2010 - Interlude will be unchained in one week!

Hi All! This week will be a blur. Tom is finishing up the spec house he built and is now working feverishly on the boat getting it ready to leave. I am working on trying to consolidate what I WANT to take with what I NEED to take. On a 38' foot boat there's only so much room and (sigh) I want to take it all! We installed new dinghy davits this year so getting the dink in and out of the water should be much easier. We also put new Plexiglas in our dodger. The designs I made with the duct tape on the cracks was a work of art but had to go!...
