May 1, 2010 - Petites Gap to the James River

We had a wonderful hike today. I started out with a big climb out of Petites Gap where I ended on Thursday. In the Gap behind a tree was a cooler of cokes, a gallon of water, and a grocery sack of cookies--trail magic. That first mile was steep and rocky going up and even worse coming down the other side. But once I got down the very steep north side, it was smooth sailing for about 3 miles. On my way down, I met a trail maintainer. He was the one who had left the goodies behind the tree. Scratchin' the Itch

Jun 19, 2006 - Crossing Into Virginia

We had a nice breakfast and then Jared helped grandpa with all the outside stuff. He helps empty the poop, disconnect the water, bring in the jacks, and puts away the chairs and stuff. When we were ready to go we headed for Otter Creek Virginia. The Blue Ridge was a bit narrow for our motorhome so we went up 221 and 81. We passed lots of farms including lots of Christmas tree farms. We crossed into Virginia at the New River.
