Sep 4, 2016 - Woman-less Beauty Pageant

2016-09-04. Woman-less Beauty Pageant To the strains of Aretha Franklin’s “you make me feel like a natural woman”, the annual Thousand Trails Woman Less “Beauty” Pageant was held today. I would have included a photo but, believe me, photos could not do this justice. Imagine if you will, large, hairy men dressed strutting their stuff in what one could only hope was NOT their wife’s dress or bathing suit. These guys were obviously in touch with their inner woman and the former Miss Virginia from 1989 was hysterical as she narrated the...

Sep 1, 2016 - Middle Peninsula, Virginia

2016-09-01. TT-Chesapeake This is the first time in the 13 years we have been camping in Pottsluck that we have stayed in one campground for more than five days. We are at Thousand Trails-Chesapeake near Gloucester, Virginia, one of our favorite campgrounds. We belong to Thousand Trails, a camping club, so get to stay here free but that is not why we like it. It is situated along the Piankatank River, a broad but relatively short river with its terminus in the Chesapeake Bay. The Piankatank would be tough to find on a map but it is between...

Aug 31, 2016 - Fishing the Piankatank

2016-08-31 – Fishing the Piankatank River The fish are mocking me! After two days of fishing, no luck. Yet, whether on the dock or in the kayaks, the fish are jumping all around us; some thunks from the larger fish and some splashes from the smaller ones but one thing is clear, they are not interested in our bait. It is fascinating though watching the different schools of fish dart all around us. There are the tiny minnows in schools of the thousands lazily swimming around the pier pillars. And as I watched I saw a circle of choppy water....

Oct 23, 2009 - Troubles

This morning we were enjoying our coffee when we heard a bang in the back of the coach. We looked in the bedroom but didn't see anything amiss. I began to make breakfast and turned on the hot water. Nothing..... I turned on the cold water and it flowed. I looked out the front door and there was water pouring out of the back of the coach. I quickly turned off the water. I got off the phone so he could investigate. The water was coming from the area of the water heater. Dan made some phone calls and found a dealer that would take us right...

Oct 14, 2009 - Chesapeake Bay TT, Cloucester, VA

We arrived in the Chesapeake Bay Thousand Trails RV Park much latter than we planned. We arrived just as the sun was setting. We were able to drive around the park and pick a site while the sun was up but it was dark by the time we were parking the coach on the site. We really try to avoid setting up after dark so we picked a site because it had easy access. The next day we moved to a more scenic site. This is a very friendly park. Right away we had folks welcoming us. They invited us to play Pickle ball and Dan agreed to play. Pickle Ball...
