Traveling today was sunny. Very nice to get some sun! Still cold, though. It is supposed to freeze overnight so we will have to bring in the water line. Tomorrow we are supposed to get freezing rain in the morning. We are watching the hourly weather on weather.com and are worried about traveling. If necessary we can stay here an extra night and adjust our overnight reservations, eliminating the day of rest on Wednesday. The morning dawned dry and cold, about 30 degrees. Oct 18, 2012 - Kings Dominion

We are finishing up our 3rd park in Virginia at the Campground at Kings Dominion Theme Park. The weather has been good but starting to get those chilly nights - heat on at night and the flannel sheets came out about 2 weeks ago. Fall colors have started but won't be peak before early Nov. The colors here are nice but we're spoiled by the New England foliage. Did a lot of exploring in Front Royal - drove thru George Washington National Forest, up on Skyline Drive, self guided walking tour in town & tasted the local grape - still young,...

Sep 23, 2012 - King's Dominion

This past weekend, we made a day trip up to King's Dominion in Virginia, my first time visiting the park. Sundays in September are a great time to visit - discounted admission tickets are available online, the weather is cooler, and the kids are back in school so the lines are much shorter. I don't think we ever waited more than 10 minutes for a ride. We arrived at the park around 11 and started out with the wooden coasters - Grizzly, Hurler, and Rebel Yell. Traveled today from Greenville SC to Doswell VA. My brother Charles decided to do ride the Amtrak home something he has wanted to do for a long time. Doswell put us about a hour out from the Amtrak for his Saturday departure. Another scorcher day with thunder storms in the evening.

George H. Cooper is my Great Grand Uncle, his Sister is my Great Grand Mother, Priscilla Ann "Catharine" Cooper married John David Southerland. He was wounded May 24, 1864 and died May 27, 1864 in General Hospital, Richmond, VA. Hanover Junction, VA is now called Doswell, VA. Just a US Post Office and a few stores.
