We left Covington on June 28 and we are in Tennessee now. Our internet connection at the campground was pretty poor...which is why I am just now getting around to doing this entry!! We really enjoyed Virgina, I really love the mountains and the countryside there. The only thing I didn't like was that we were so far away from everything. I would have to be closer to a real town if I lived there! One place we really enjoyed visiting was the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, Va. (just outside Staunton). May 18, 2010 - Out and About...
We have been at Morris Hill Campground near Covington, Va. since May 3. The campground is a primative area with 55 spots. So far we haven't been very busy, but I expect that will change over Memorial Weekend. The area is beautiful, Sharon, our "boss" is really nice, as is the other host couple (Deb and Pat Dennis). However...we have no TV, our cell phones are a little tempermental, and our internet connection is not very good. In fact, we have to thank Pat for having internet access at all. Sunday we travelled from Asheville to Covington. The trip was good. Traffic on I-40 was light, I-77 was very heavy from Statesville, NC to Wytheville, VA and terrible on I-81 from Wytheville to Roanoke. I was worried about the mountain at Fancy Gap, VA. Our truck and trailer did a magnificent job on the mountain. Engine coolant and exhaust gas temperatures stayed well within the normal zone and I belive the truck would have pulled the hill in 5th gear had we not been slowed by traffic.
