We arrived at about 1:30 pm and got set up in a beautiful big pull through site. Wow, what a beautifully kept state park! There is direct access to the lake, a small beach area, and loads of hiking / biking trails in the surrounding woods. We rented a kayak on the 20th for a little time out on the lake. We tried to bring Bentley along, but he did not want to sit still, imagine that...... And we really didn’t want to roll over out in the lake, so we gave him some time to splash and play in the waters by the boat launch, then got him dried...

Sep 25, 2018 - OMG its been a month!

On our way to Williamsburg, but needed to get off the highway, so came upon Claytor Lake State Park. It was not too far off the interstate but was quite difficult to figure out their method for determining reserved vs non-reserved campsites. Finally figured out and settled in for a lovely evening. Norman's driveway campground here we come! But first, Norman says to stop at Monticello - so we will.

Oct 23, 2008 - Radford, VA Claytor Lake State Park

Thursday, October 23, 2008 Claytor Lake State Park, Virginia We survived our night without the electric blanket! Boy, was it dark at 6am when the alarm rang. I remember turning over and thinking that it was waaaaay too dark to get out of bed, so I didn’t! Even at 6:45am, it was dark although the sun was lighting up the sky above all the trees. Ahhh, it was gorgeous to be in the quiet with tall trees and lots of lower growth all around. The forest areas out here are really quite spectacular. After a long morning of reading snugly wrapped up...
