May 2, 2017 - Northwest River Park (4/21 - 4/23/17)

We are back in Virginia. We couldn't get into either of our favorite places in Virginia Beach, but this is such a beautiful park. It is very wooded and has many walking trails. We had dinner with our daughter, Ashley, and Tim's sister, Joanne. They came down to see us. It was great to see them as it had been 3 months. We took a nice stroll after dinner. Most of the rest of our time here it rained. We decided to replace the blinds in our RV, so even with the rain we had inside work to do. On Monday Ashley was in the park for a library...

May 30, 2015 - The Boat and Survey

During the winter of 2014/2015 Kathy and I decided that a trawler would better meet our future goals for being on the water. We had done some trips with our good friends Gil and Sue Bleckman on their Defever 49, so we an idea of some of the boxes the new boat would have to check. As our internet search progressed we found a boat that Chuck Grice @ Virginia Yacht Brokers was brokering. ROAD TRIP, we liked what we saw but before we could make an offer Chuck had sold the boat. Kathy and my mom (Miss Elly) where at the house in NC. when I asked...

Apr 24, 2011 - Chesapeake, Virginia

Happy Easter everyone!! We got up fairly early this morning, to have our free continental breakfast at the motel. After breakfast, we packed up the bikes and waited in line for the ferry to arrive. We parked our bikes on the ferry with some other bikers, and then enjoyed the 2 ½ hour ferry ride. The water was very calm (thank goodness, because Patti gets motion sickness still sometimes). We arrived at Ocracoke Island at noon, and then rode the length of that island, only to take another 40 minute ride over to Hatteras Island. The whole ride...

Mar 11, 2011 - Edenton NC to Chesapeake VA

Slack morning today, no gym at the hotel but we did repack the boot for more room and enjoyed the breakfast provided whilst watching the news on the Japan earthquake. The coverage here is very extensive but seems to go off on a tangent on any rumour that bobs up only to correct themselves when the facts come in. Drove though Edenton today checking out the magnificent houses and a wooden lighthouse located on the dock. All of the towns around here have a large part of their economy based on the shipping and fishing that occurs in this area....

Nov 7, 2010 - Day 2 Deep Creek Lock to Elizabeth City, NC

Hi All! We spent a very calm and lovely evening at the free dock outside of Deep Creek Lock on the Dismal Swamp. It did get very chilly but we were ready with our jammies and blankets! Today we are heading to South Mills Lock and then onto Elizabeth City. Elizabeth City has free local docks and some nice restaurants. They also have a street that has beautiful Victorian houses. It will be a nice stopover. Thanks for stopping by. Hope all is well with you and yours. Cathie on s/v INTERLUDE. OUT.

Nov 6, 2010 - Day 1 - Gloucester Point to Deep Creek Lock

Hi All! It's now official. We are no longer CLODs (Cruisers Living On Dirt). We left at first light this morning. Picked up Slow Dancin' who was anchored in our creek and away we went! It was quite cold and as usual we are very thankful for our full enclosure. The Chesapeake Bay was very rough and the waves were close together which made a very lumpy ride. I was very happy to get into Hampton Harbor where things smoothed down. We are taking the Dismal Swamp Canal to Elizabeth City. It's a beautiful ride and the trees are in full autumn...

Oct 28, 2009 - Trip to Chesapeake, Va

From beautiful Chesapeake, Virginia ... We had very heavy rains which began yesterday afternoon and lasted during the night. This morning, the rain has stopped, and the fogs are lifting in the valley. I have a great view of downtown and the surrounding mountains from my office windows. I lucked out in my last year to be moved into a corner office with two walls of windows. It is only "temporary" space until another floor is renovated, but it will be the last space I will occupy. I have been here since October of last year. I guess this...

On the Road Again

Aug 13, 2009 - Almost 3000 miles

Last night we arrived a Conor's house. All along the way I have been teasing him about we were going to take him to Costa Rica before going home. Of course he wasn't going to have anything to do with that. In England a lot of the house have nicknames. Were he lived it was called Ashely Cottage. He decided to nickname his Virginia house Costa Rica. This was more to shut me up than a fondness for Costa Rica. He was very surprised when we turned into the drive way and a sign saying "Welcome to Costa Rica" was posted. (See photo) The drive in...

Oct 24, 2008 - A Rockin and a Rollin (with the wind at our back)

Friday, October 24, 2008 This is day 4 of our great adventure and it surely has been one! We are comfortably tied up to the free dock in Great Bridge, VA, after leaving the Chesapeake Bay on our first full day on the ICW. We’ve covered 118 miles so far in our trek south….But let me fill in some holes first. We did leave, as hoped, on Tuesday Oct 21, in spite of not having completed everything we had hoped to accomplish. Ah well, such is life. It was too lovely a day not to set sail. We left later than planned (11:45am) so we adjusted our...

May 4, 2008 - Preparing for the journey

After months of deciphering the code that is RV rentals we finally selected what will be our home away from home. It is a 33' Winnebago Chalet. It has two pop-outs that expand the dining and sleeping areas. The thing that drew us to this floor plan is the bunk beds for the kids. With built in bunks we don't have to convert the dining areas into beds every day as is the case with most motor homes. Bud is fast at work on finalizing the itinerary and reviewing the "get to know your RV" CD. Laura is preparing the menu's, shopping for all the...

Apr 12, 2008 - Arrival on the Atlantic

Greetings All, We braved the rain and arrived on the east coast about 5:45 pm. We were pleased to have an uneventful day except for the beauty that surrounded us. It was truely awesome. Sue talked to Marsha earlier and they are in the Savanah area. The entries on this site may be a little sparce until we get moving to the north in a few days. Right now we are enjoying just stopping for awhile.

Nov 2, 2007 - Virgina

Today we took a drive to Chesapeake and Virgina Beach. on the drive there we passed some cotton fields being harvested and put in large bales for shipping. We then drove the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-tunnel. It was not a very warm day and the wind was blowing very hard. it is an awesome sight to see. The bridge-tunnel was opened in 1964. It is the largest bridge-tunnel complex in the world. measuring 17.6 miles from shore to shore, the Bridge Tunnel consists of more than 12 miles of trestled roadway, two mile long tunnels, two bridges, four...
