Jun 15, 2013 - Sailing on the Tall Ship, The Virginia
As if riding in a helicopter wasn't enough excitement for one week for two senior citizens, we decided to go on a 2 hour cruise on a tall ship this morning. The weather was perfect with brilliant blue skies, low humidity and light winds. The crew of 10 aboard the Pilot Schooner Virginia did a great job making the 25 or so paying passengers feel welcome as we boarded the ship and looked around the deck. They told us the ship was a replica of a schooner built about 1917 for the purpose of training pilots to bring big ships into ports in...

Jun 14, 2013 - A Perfect Afternoon
We discovered that the covering on the large slideout had pulled out in the storm last night. The camp store had gorilla tape which Jerry used to make a repair that we hope will last for the summer. We're glad that was all that happened. It was quite a storm. It rained off and on this morning and didn't stop raining until after 2 p.m., but we made up for it with a great afternoon, visiting a winery, an historic town and a Tall Ship Festival nearby. The winery had a tasting of eight wines. Jerry laughed at me because I said I liked all of...

Jun 13, 2013 - Eastern Shore of VA - Town of Cheriton
On Wednesday we drove 251 miles from Myrtle Beach to Roanoke Rapids, NC, located a few miles south of the Virginia border. We stayed at an RV park right off I 95 which has a great pool. It was a hot day so swimming was really enjoyable. In the evening we watched some of the Stanley Cup playoffs between the Chicago Blackhawks and Boston Bruins but didn't make it to the end of the game which lasted until after midnight. The Blackhawks won in overtime. This morning we drove another 148 miles thorugh the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area and then on...

Dec 7, 2008 - Crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel
We drove from Maryland down the peninsula planning to cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. We were in seafood land so we decided to pick a spot and go eat fresh caught seafood. We ended up in the Great Machipongo Clam Shack. Really. This was a converted McDonald’s that they made into quite a good little hole in the wall seafood joint. We ate beautiful butter sautéed blue claw crab meat, fried clam strips and I had to have half a dozen clams on the half shell. Florian was an adventurous soul and slurped one down, but didn’t like the...

Oct 30, 2007 - Cherrystone Campground 2007
This was our annual Halloween camping trip. Holly's "potato" pumpkin took first place! Cindy's "Airstream" camper pumkin took third place. Great job to both of you. We enjoyed being with the camping group and stayed on site 75. This is our favorite site because we can look out over the Chesapeake Bay and the sunsets are fantastic!

Oct 25, 2006 - Cherystone Campground 2006
This beautiful sunset was taken from our campsite on the Chesapeake Bay. This is one of our favorite places to camp in the fall. They have a great Halloween celebration that includes decorating the camp sites, hay rides, a haunted house, costume contest, pumpkin decorating contest and more.
