Sep 4, 2017 - Centreville VA - Bull Run Regional Park Campground

Okay, for starters, that’s the way the spell “Centreville”. Guess they think they’re English or something. They pronounce things funny out here, too. For example, “Staunton” is “Stan ton” not “Stawn ton”. Don’t know why they stuck the “u” in there, but they sure ignore it. A lot of things are a little hokie here in the Washington D.C. area. The local Fox channel was doing their traffic reports in the morning using matchbox cars. I kid you not. No wonder things tend to be backwards in the government. This whole area is a little...

Retired at Last!

May 28, 2017 - Bull Run Regional Park

So as the nice campground at Bull Run empties out for the holiday, those of us who aren't governed by weekends or holidays move in. Made the short run from Richmond area to Centreville, VA and got settled into a nice water and electric site in this massive county park which has its 150 site campground 2.5 miles into the park. Got to spend two days with daughter Vic and grandkids Charlie and Juliana. What a treat! I haven't seen Charlie since last September or so when I got to see him at his dorm in Norman, OK. Charlie's first year is now...

Sep 9, 2016 - Bull Run Regional Park, Centreville, VA

Back at old stomping grounds to celebrate granddaughter Juliana Ruiter's 16th birthday. Hard to believe that it's been 16 years already and now she's a high school junior. What fun! Got to visit with daughter Vic and son in law Jon. Had some nice dinners out and Sunday, with Vic, brought Jon to Dulles for another of his overseas trips - this one for 3 weeks.

2016 Summer Trip

Jun 10, 2016 - Northern Virginia/Charlie's Graduation

(CLICK ON THUMBNAIL PICTURES TO ENLARGE) We left W VA enroute to the northern VA area arriving at Bull Run Regional Park and Campground, Centreville, VA. Bull Run is a very large county park that I estimate at 5 sq miles just south of I-66 and east of historic site of the Battle of Bull Run. The campground itself is 2 miles deep into the park and has 150 sites with about ¾ of them being either full hookup or electric & water sites. The majority of the sites are pull through paralleling the paved roads. Sites are relatively level and...

2016 Summer Trip

Jul 22, 2013 - Centreville

We went to a small out of the way town called Centreville. It was easy to get into Washington DC and Arlington National Cemetery. Washington is a great place to visit for a quick tour then you get the hell out. It is sooooo crowded and because it is the 'head shed' it costs a fortune just for a coffee. Well worth a visit but you would not want to stay there. The story behind Arlington Cemetery is interesting. To summarise it - Arlington was in Robert E. Lee's family but when the Confederates came second in the civil war the Union seconded...

OziTerra

Sep 14, 2012 - Centreville, Virginia

The Saga Continues On Thursday, Alan decided he had better get his Jeep checked out, so he made arrangements to take it in. Since we were waiting to see if the parts for the fridge would show up, we loaded Alan’s cart in the back of the pickup and headed off to see the Manassas Battlefield. We checked at the visitor center to see if anyone knew Larry Gordon, a friend our old neighbor Joe Kline, but he wasn’t working that day. Made us wonder if Larry had left word that if anyone came around looking for him and saying they were sent by Joe...

My motto, "Children should not move away from their parents, just out of the house, but they should not leave town"!!
