May 12, 2016 - North Bend campground on John Kerr Reservoir

Drove 282 miles and arrived at John Kerr Reservoir on the NC/VA line. Below are details about the lake that we will be camping on for a week. North Bend Park is located on the John H. Kerr Reservoir, a 50,000-acre lake that extends 39 miles up the wooded, cove-studded shoreline of the Roanoke River in Virginia and North Carolina. Kerr Reservoir, also known as Buggs Island Lake, was created with the construction of the John H. Kerr Dam in 1953. Its 800 miles of wooded shoreline stretch across six counties and offer countless recreation...

Oct 18, 2014 - North Bend State Park

Kerr Lake, Buggs Island, North Bend State Park and Campground. Cindy, Kasey and I arrived on Friday about 5:30. We had hoped to catch up with Jeremy but things didn't work out. He had to go back to the beach for class this weekend. We stayed on site 176. Water view was wonderful! The site was tight for our camper/truck combination. There are 5 steps going down to the sitting and fire pit area. Kasey didn't like that much. The weather was perfect! Highs in the mid 70's and lowes in the upper 50's. Friday night we had beef tips over rice...

Jul 26, 2012 - Day 9: heading back west

We packed up camp and left Chincoteague today at 10 am. Then we went to the Wallops NASA Station. It's only a couple of miles off Chincoteague Island. I learned some things about NASA and space--like why we need space suits-- and I saw a piece of moon rock. I bought some more astronaut food. We headed south to get to the mainland of Virginia. We went on the Chesapeake Bay tunnel Bridge that goes from the tip of the peninsula to Virginia Beach. The tunnel-bridge is 23 miles long. We went thru 2 tunnels of 1 mile each. There are 4 man made...

Sep 22, 2011 - Last Day in Paradise

From North Bend Park in Boydton, VA … Thursday, September 22, 2011 We really cannot complain about the weather we’ve had this week. Most of the rain fell last night after dark, and we were safe and comfy inside our little home on wheels. During the day, for the most part has been dry. We have been able to get in our walks and bike rides and some nice time sitting by the lake taking in the views. This morning we took almost a 3 mile walk through the park. We walked the bike trails all the way over to Loop C and looked around. Later on, we...

Sep 20, 2011 - Relaxing Sunny Day

From North Bend Park in Boydton, VA … Tuesday, September 20, 2011 The weather held out for us one more day, and we were able to enjoy a beautiful day here at North Bend. What a nice park this is. We just love it here. It’s hard to believe there is a place this nice within only two hours from home. After breakfast, we carried a second cup of coffee and our bag chairs down to the beach and sat enjoying the morning sunshine. We watched our blue heron sitting on his favorite rocks in the water. The sun came out and kept us toasty warm. Next...

Sep 19, 2011 - North Bend Park

From North Bend Park in Boydton, VA … Monday, September 19, 2011 After getting everything packed into the truck this morning, we finally pulled out of our driveway about 9:00am. As we worked to load the truck, a drizzly rain fell. The forecast for this week does not look very good . A few minutes later, Chris from RV Outlet called Charlie’s cell phone and said that they were just now starting the work on our RV. Now if you recall, we drove it down there and dropped it off on Thursday. Charlie told him that we were on our way to pick it up,...

Oct 13, 2009 - Return home

From North Bend COE Park in Boydton, Virginia … and then back home ... The rain and clouds of yesterday were all cleared out this morning when we got up. More blue skies and sunshine. No one likes to head home on a beautiful sunny day, but it’s no fun packing up in the rain either, so we won’t complain. Charlie and I always get up an hour or two earlier than Sam and Sandy, and it’s a big joke among the four of us. Today was no different. We had coffee and leftover coffee cake, and then headed out for one last morning walk. We sat on a...

Oct 12, 2009 - A cool drizzly day

From North Bend COE Park in Boydton, Virginia … We woke up to much cooler temperatures today. In fact, it didn’t get above 57 degrees today. We all got in a long bike ride in the morning though. We took the bike path all the way out to the Visitors Center. It was really fun. When we got back, Charlie made a big campfire, and we all sat around enjoying hot cocoa with marshmallows. I have to say I actually enjoyed the cool drizzly day. I love fall weather, and this is a great time to camp. Unfortunately, the rain eventually drove us inside....

Oct 10, 2009 - Visit to Clarkesville

From North Bend COE Park in Boydton, Virginia … Charlie and I got up and enjoyed our coffee outside in the loungers, overlooking the lake and enjoying the birds. A flock of Canada geese flew over our heads honking away. I made a blueberry coffee cake for breakfast for the four of us. We enjoyed it outside. After breakfast we all jumped in the car and drove into Clarkesville for some sightseeing. We went into some shops and galleries and a huge antique mall. The antique mall actually had a little bit of everything you could think of on two...

Oct 9, 2009 - Beautiful day for bike riding

From North Bend COE Park in Boydton, Virginia … We awoke to warm temperatures in the 60s this morning and bright sunshine. We have gorgeous views of the lake through the trees from all of our windows. It is so pretty and peaceful here. We just love it, and it’s so nice to have a campground like this that’s not too far from home. Sam and Sandy are going to be heading to the Nascar race in Bristol, Va, in two weeks, so they have already scouted out some storage lots nearby so they can leave their motorhome here instead of hauling it back to...

Oct 8, 2009 - Travel to North Bend Park

From North Bend COE Park in Boydton, Virginia … The weather was beautiful today for traveling. We got up at 7:00am and prepared for our trip today. We arrived at Storage City around 10:15am and were then on the road at 11:00am. We only stopped once for a minute when Charlie pulled over just to check the bikes on the new bike rack. I am happy to report that the bike ride did a great job, and we didn’t have any problems at all. We arrived at North Bend Park at 1:10pm. We called Sam and Sandy, and they were only about 15 minutes behind us....
