Jul 21, 2017 - Day 4 Island Pond to St. Johnsbury 46 miles

Froze in tent last night - temps hit low 50's and we don't have sleeping bags. The cold kept us from sleeping. (As an aside, my favorite guilty pleasure television show is Naked and Afraid - participants are naked in a basic shelter built from leaves and they survive lower temps than we did - either it's fake news or they are REALLY tough!) Got off early and had a pretty ride with mist coming off the lakes. Only 2 really bad climbs today - stayed on bike up the first one in the morning but towards the end of the ride we had a steep climb on...

LUCKY 58

Apr 19, 2017 - Here!

We landed at Moose River Campground in St. Johnsbury at 6:00 PM local time today. Eight days, 2,815 miles and we successfully dodged the severe weather (except that wind in OK) coming across. We will be heading to Ginger's father's house tomorrow. Much to do there but we also plan to add some R&R time. We hadn't planned to be here this summer but it will be good to spend time with Elwin, other family and friends. Yes Tom - I hope to get rid of more of that "stuff" in the storage shed. By the way, it is 40 degrees and rain here. A little...

Oct 9, 2016 - Even Better Autumn Colour

Brilliant colour! The weather was rather cloudy but the rain was very sparse so we are not complaining. The maximum temperature was 12C and we were wearing shorts (not very short) but we ate lunch on a terrace in Rochester, one of the many pretty towns that we passed through today. Now that we are in Vermont there is no shortage of eateries. Coffee and soup and sandwich lunches are easy to find. The whole day was on small roads through the woods. There were bends and hills but none were sharp or steep. The proportion of maple trees was...

Sep 29, 2016 - St. Johnsbury, VT

Just when you figured we had probably driven over the edge of a mountain and went to RV Heaven, here we come again, alive, and on our way to Maine before heading home. What has been going on since mid-August? Lots actually but the combination of a fried computer and little or no internet service, we have been living off the grid. When the computer crashed I lost an external hard drive with my backups on it and all my pictures. Not a happy camper (to say the least). The highlight of the last month or so was my reaching the milestone of the...

May 1, 2016 - At our summer home

Well, we are back at Moose River Campground in St. Johnsbury, VT. We arrived this afternoon – 265 miles with light rain much of the way. We’ll be here for the summer and into the fall. Our time here will be spent visiting with family (primarily Ginger’s parents, Elwin and Aggie), friends and trying to thin out the items we have stored in Elwin and Aggie’s basement. More downsizing! We have been on the road for almost 5 years, so it is time! It will be good to see “old” familiar faces. I am taking a break from posting regular entries. There...

Nov 5, 2014 - Saying our Goodbyes

Met Ken & Sandi our last few days in St. Johnsbury and found that out that they live in Bradford, NH. Had a wonderful dinner with them. Got more ideas about our trip through them, suggestions about the Natchez Trace Pace which we'll be embarking on soon. Spent a wonderful week with Nancy in Concord while our RV was being worked on. Enjoyed watching the progress of Dick & Willo's new condo and had a wonderful dinner there. Had a chance to go around to all our neighbors to say our goodbyes. Went to yoga classes and had a chance to see all my...

Oct 1, 2014 - The Bird Man

Went to Cabot Vermont to meet Edmund Menard known as The Bird Man. He takes cedar wood and creates them into beautiful fanned birds. We spent an hour with him. He gave us a demonstration on how he carves these birds, and then gave us a tour of his house, which is also quite creative. He told Dan when we return from our journey, he'll teach him how to carve. Something to look forward to.

Oct 1, 2014 - The Dog Chapel & visit with Allison & Ross

The Dog Chapel is just up the road from the Moose River Campground. It was developed by Stephen Huneck and his wife Gwen and is situated on Dog Mountain. There are 150 acres with walking trails, dog chapel and a gallery. Stephen wrote many children books. His illustrations are unique. The Chapel is a place to go and think about the pets you've had and the memories that everyone treasures. The grounds are just beautiful, and the colors have been magnificent. Allison, our niece and her boyfriend Ross came for a visit. They were heading back...

Sep 16, 2014 - Old Friends Leave, New Friends are made

Said our goodbyes to Aline & David, and Candy & Paul, were ready to go do errands when we were invited for a Bratwurst lunch party at Herb and Gingers. Herb & Ginger have been Rving for the past 4 years and are a wealth of information. Got to meet John, who has been their mentors and been traveling for over 7 years. Learning so much from all of them. Joined a couple more clubs, Escapees and Good Sam Club. Planning on an Escapee boot camp in March in AZ. There you learn all you need to know about RV's. By the time we return we'll be...

Arrived at the Moose River Campground on Wed. Sept. 3rd. Started off at Site 17, on the river. Met our first neighbors Larry & Marlene. They're musicians with The Bear Mountain Jammer's. We had 3 nights of campfires together and getting to know each other. It took a few days getting organized, unpacking and learning where and how everything works on our Motor Home. Fri. Sept 5th we had the closing of our house, so we celebrated by going kayaking by the Moore River Dam. Beautiful Day!!! Sandie went for a long swim as well..while Dan paddled...
