Jul 11, 2019 - Vermont

After we left pricey Bayley’s Camping Resort in Scarborough, we headed west through the White Mountains of New Hampshire and into Vermont. Vermont is a beautiful green state with lots of rolling hills. Our destination was Lake Champagne Resort in the small town of Randolph Center near the middle part of the state. Our trip was uneventful, with one stop at a travel center on the toll road for a late breakfast. Steve managed to take a picture of me with a lighthouse sticking out of my head. He’s such a kidder. We were pleasantly surprised to...

2019 Life in our RV

Oct 8, 2013 - Jack's Birthday in VT

We stayed an extra night in NH due to the prediction and reality of stormy weather for NH & VT and are glad we did. When we drove out this morning it was a beautiful day to drive to the center of VT where we are staying for a couple of nights at Lake Champagne Campground, Randolph Center, VT. We are enjoying the autumn leaves and the small towns that we've driven through. After we got to our campsite today, we walked to a nearby market that was like a step back in time. A man was sitting by a potbelly stove reading his paper and the floor...

Sep 16, 2013 - Green Mountains, Vermont

Our time in Vermont is up. We move on to New York headed for Niagara Falls tomorrow. Fall foliage is beginning to turn but not nearly to peak color. The cold weather has arrived again and appears to be staying this time. Tonight we have a frost warning and a predicted low of near freezing. We took one last day drive through the Green Mountains of Vermont yesterday to enjoy the fall colors. It was a beautiful day for a picnic at one of two state parks we checked out.

Sep 10, 2013 - Quechee, Vermont

Yesterday we took a drive to Woodstock (Vermont NOT New York) and on to Quechee. Woodstock is a quiet little town nestled in the woods of Vermont. The most interesting thing we found there was a huge general store. It literally had everything you would want, their own little walmart. Quechee, on the other hand, was a busy tourist destination. Quechee Gorge, known as "Vermont's Little Grand Canyon", is apparently a popular natural wonder in this area. There's the gorge, the village, the diner, the state park and lots of hiking trails. We...

Sep 6, 2013 - Lake Champagne/Rock of Ages Quarry

We moved from Apple Island Resort on South Hero Island in Vermont to Randolph Center in Vermont on Tuesday. It was a short move but we're now in a campground where we can stay for two weeks while watching the foliage turn in Vermont before moving on to New York. Note that this is Lake Champagne that we're on now rather than Lake Champlain. This campground is surrounded by natural beauty and very comfortable in that you have lots of open space. Our site overlooks a valley with trees that are beginning to turn. Last night the low was nearly...

Aug 30, 2012 - Southern Vermont

Today we did the southern part of Vermont heading south on Scenic Highway 100. Our first stop was Killington Ski Area where we stopped to get some pictures. Along the way, we saw these wonderful hay creatures in front of businesses and finally saw someone working on one and stopped to get the story. It seems that this weekend is their Hay Festival and several years ago businesses began putting these hay sculptures up. They have a big celebration with lots of things for kids to do including a scavenger hunt that involves the hay animals....

Aug 29, 2012 - Northern Vermont

We drove north and up Scenic Highway 100 to Stowe to see the ski area there. On our way back down, we stopped at a Cider Mill which wasn't working but we did get some hot cider and shared a cider doughnut. Our next stop was a glass blower. The shop was full of beautiful pieces and the blower was making ornaments. We bought one of the ornaments then headed to the Cabot Cheese store where we got a two pound block of their yummy white cheddar and a smaller chunk of Artesan Cheese. Then we were off to Ben and Jerry's where we took a tour of the...

Because rain was predicted, we decided to take a day off. We slept late then went into Randolph for lunch. We ate a delicious lunch at a little diner then walked around the town and took some pictures. Then we headed back to the RV to enjoy our day off.

The scenery was great - lots of wooded mountains and picturesque little villages. The campground is nice with fairly wide, grassy sites and a lot of green space. After setting up, we drove down to the Vermont/New Hampshire border to Rick Huemme's restaurant and had a wonderful lunch. We had time for a nice visit again with him then headed back and had a restful...

New England Trip

Aug 19, 2009 - Randolph Center, VT

We had a nice, trouble free drive from Arlington to Randolph Center, VT. We passed through some magnificent scenery and also few ski areas. The new campground is really pretty with lots of rolling hills and a nice swimming lake. We decided to take it easy the first day and just drove into the town of Randolph to see what it was like. We were surprised to find a little larger town than the small villages we had been through. We made a stop at the book store to pick up some reading material and then took the scenic way home with a stop at the...

Jul 27, 2008 - Randolph Center, VT

It was mostly freeways getting here. As with the smaller roads, all green everywhere. It's more open up north though, with views of the mountains so we're enjoying that. It's nice to be in a campground again where we have some space and a view (they have a lake here with mountains beyond).
