Some Vermonters at the cc told us about Grand Isle sp on the "islands" north of where we camped. We had about decided to head home but thought we'd check it out. Made it 54 miles today to the sp right on Lake Champlain. After getting a site, we drove up the island to buy veggies and look around since it is beautiful. We came back and walked down the hill from our site to a vacant lean-to site for a view of the lake. Warmer than the Maine coast but colder than home!

Aug 24, 2008 - Day 134 Grand Isle Vermont
Day 134 Sunday 24th August Grand Isle Vermont pg 104 C2 Bronni was up at the crack of dawn this morning to get a few sunrise photos of Lake Champlain. (Champlain, a Frenchman is credited to be the first white person to see this area). Today we have travelled on the east cost of Lake Champlain. Our first port of call was a historic site of Crown Point where the French established a Fort (Fort Frederic) to stake claim to that part of the lake in the 1731.
