Sep 4, 2016 - Sept 2 Bethel to East Thetford, VT (29 mi)

We had a lovely night in "The Rose Room" at our Bether B&B. Woke up to heavy fog, but Rick had a great breakfast ready to get us on our way. Just a wee reminder at this point for anyone who thinks we have given up camping because we are in so many B&B's . . . We are just in an area in Vermont that has no campgrounds on our route, or even motels!! There are only B&B's along here, and they are really awesome!! It is not a bad way to travel! This morning is one of the mornings we have been just not looking forward to, we have ourselves freaked...

Sep 22, 2012 - New Hampshire-Vermont Border

Wednesday 9/19 thru Saturday 9/22 Our stay for the next few days was at Rest-n-Nest Campground in East Thetford, VT. This park is located just off I-91. As you drive north you see the White Mountains of New Hampshire out your right-hand window and the Green Mountains of Vermont on your left!! Again, we have been wowed!! (NOTE: If you see what looks like "bug-splats" on some of the pictures, it is not a dirty camera lense, rather because many included here were taken through the MH window shield as we traveled.) Our campsite was nestled in a...

Sep 9, 2009 - Vins Institute of Natural Science

Well as you see we didn't leave Vermont on Wednesday we decided to stay until Friday then will travel down to South Dennis, MA. We wanted to rest a little longer and go see some more things we hadn't had a chance to. We just had to go out and see Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Factory. Ben & Jerry were two fairly laid back guys who weren't doing well in University so they invested $12000 of which $4000 was borrowed and opened their homemade ice cream scoop shop in a renovated gas station in Burlington Vermont in 1978. After a short time they had...

Sep 7, 2009 - Billings Farm & Museum, Woodstock

This morning we slept in a little tired from all the weekend activities. We had our Bailey's and coffee and a nice breakfast. We then decided we'd like to go out and do some site seeing. The first thing we noticed was that the leaves have started to change color it is getting very pretty. We went to Sugarbush Farm where they make Cheese and Maple Syrup. It is a full working farm with lots of animals. You can go inside and taste all the different cheeses and syrup that they make on the farm. The cheeses were really good I find the Maple...

Sep 7, 2009 - Gary & Michelle's Wedding Day

Yesterday was Gary & Michelle's wedding day and it was absolutely beautiful. The weather was perfect and everything went so smoothly it was unbelievable. Brian met Gary & all his groomsmen at 11:30 am and they had a nice morning together having some lunch and just hanging out together. They all got dressed in the tuxes and I have to say I was impressed they looked great! The photographer came and took pictures down by the river behind the hotel and then we all left for the church. Once at the church we waited for Michelle to arrive and yes...

Sep 3, 2009 - Hanover, New Hampshire

We went to see Dartmouth the university that Gary & Michelle attended. It is an Ivy league school and it seems like the whole town revolves around the university. We went into the library of Dartmouth and it is unbelievable absolutely gorgeous and the books they have in there fantastic. I think what we enjoyed the most about the library was the history has you walked around and saw various pictures and things. After the library we walked down the streets and it was nice to see a lot of students carrying all their luggage into the dorms. The...

Sep 2, 2009 - Woodstock, Vermont

Yesterday we drove down to Woodstock it is about 20 minutes from where we are staying. It was a beautiful drive through many windy roads we love going this way rather than driving on the highways, you see you much more of the small towns. The leaves have not changed yet but driving around you can just image how beautiful this area would be. It is our one disappointment that we won't be seeing the change of color here. We saw the church that Gary & Michelle will be married in on Sunday it is beautiful church right in the downtown community...

Aug 31, 2009 - East Thetford, Vermont

We had a short drive to Vermont today only took us about two hours and the weather was really nice. We are staying at the Rest n' Nest Campground which is one of the nicest campgrounds we have stayed at so far. The spots are really big and very well cared for all nice and level and big fire pits. The couple who own the campground are very nice and they make you feel very welcome, they have owned the campsite for about four years. Brian enjoyed talking to them very much you see their son plays hockey. If you are staying in Vermont I would...

Aug 6, 2009 - Vermont, the other land of cows and cheese

I will backtrack a bit to tell you about our time in Vermont. Twelve years ago we had camped and hiked in the Green Mountains and were very excited to return to the area. While driving along on the highway we heard a gradually loudening thump. Suddenly an old memory rose up--That was the sound of a tire going bad. But it couldn't be, the tires were 3 1/2 years old and they are expected to last at least 5 years. Then you change them whether they look like they need it or not. We stopped, only to discover that one of the front tires was...

Where is Tortuga?

Jun 19, 2009 - East Thetford, VT

As we drove into Vermont we went aah! The beautiful lush green rolling hills, lots of ponds and small rivers greeted us. We were driving on an Interstate freeway, BUT we could only see 6 cars and the exits are 8 to 15 miles apart(not three to the mile like in the Boston area). From East Thetford, Vermont we toured central and southern Vermont.: Woodstock - A city with an attractive and well used Green (small park with grass and trees usually with some of the oldest houses in town around it). A covered bridge right by the Green and a cute...
