Sep 11, 2012 - Ciao Canada
Day 30, Sept. 11, 2012, Ciao Canada (3 photos) Bay crossing last night was smooth and uneventful. Parker survived the three hour trip in the camper in the hold of the ship. Became hopelessly lost from the ferry dock to the campground (St. John has very confusing streets.) A local, seeing us at the curb pouring over maps, volunteered to guide us to the campground. But for him, we would still be wandering. Radio news throughout the day talked of Hurricane Leslie and the pounding in Nova Scotia. Cold front arrived in New Brunswick to create a...

Sep 9, 2012 - Burlington, Vermont
Sept. 5-6, 2012 From Gettysburg, we back-tracked into New York on the same freeways we’d taken eight days earlier. The next day we pulled into the Shelburne Campground on the south side of Burlington, Vermont. We were a couple of miles from Lake Champlain. The campground is on the Ethan Hale Highway—he of the War of 1812 era. In Burlington we took care of some grooming—personal and canine. Nick went to a groomer in the local Petco while Mary Anne and I went to a Super Cuts! Burlington (population of about 45,000) is home of the University...

Sep 5, 2012 - Overcast and cool can't slow us down
The weather was not ideal yesterday but we had plans for it. First we went on the Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream Factory Tour. This was the first factory the guys built in Waterbury VT. Yes it was fun AND we got free ice cream. Next we stopped for lunch in a nice little restaurant in downtown Waterbury. They had a wonderful full wall mural of this historic town. Next to the Waterbury Historic train station which has been totally restored and houses the Green Mountain Coffee exhibit and the history of Waterbury. This town was decimated by...

Sep 4, 2012 - Looking for the Northern Coat Factory
Of course, we are in Burlington VT you know railroads and coats. What a neat place. We finally got in the campground which is situated on Lake Champlain. We wanted to see the beach which was a 3 minute walk from our site. On our way we crossed a bike path and found that is was a nine mile multi purpose paved path which ran along the shore. The beach was beautiful and we made plans to come back after biking. We rode on a mostly flat grade among other bikers, hikers, joggers, and skateboarders into downtown Burlington. There are 3 colleges...

Jul 11, 2012 - Teddy Bear's And Chocolate
Today we headed down to Shelburne, VT (just south of Burlington) to the Vermont Teddy Bear factory tour. It was a very neat tour. We ate lunch at a great little gourmet/sandwich shop. Had a great wrap and soup. Then we headed back towards Burlington to Lake Champlain Chocolate factory tour. Oh, yes, chocolate!! It is the best! The tour again was very interesting and "free" samples! Also, Echo and I had found a coupon that if you spent $20.00 you could get 2 pieces of chocolate FREE! Well, had to do some shopping. This chocolate is so good....

Oct 1, 2011 - Vermont
We finally made it to the RV park, after driving through Burlington. Our RV park was actually in Colchester, a suburb of Burlington. I always get nervous when we arrive at the RV parks. Will we be ok getting through the streets? (Sometimes the streets are super narrow, with tight curves, left and right hand turns or with crowded RV hookups and possibly low hanging limbs). This one was not too difficult to maneuver. It was a “pull through”-no backing up to get parked and no backing up to pull out when we are ready to go! We really enjoyed...

We drove around Apple Island where we are camped. There are a number of dairy herds and haying is in full swing. Reminds me of Johnson Lake except a few more trees. Back on the mainland we traveled south into Burlington where the serious marinas and boats reside. Church Street is a pedestrian mall with a group of shops Sandy had to visit. There were open case musicians out on the street supplying the entertainment. For supper we took the sunset cruise on the lake. They offered cheese and wine but we opted for pizza and other drinks. It was...

Travel day. We drove windy Hiway 2 to a campground north of Burlington. The campground is on an island in the edge of Lake Champlain. This is a resort with a lot of park models permanently installed. A marina is part of the resort and there are boats everywhere. Bill

Oct 2, 2010 - Vermont
We've spent the last few days traveling South to North through the middle of Vermont along the east side of the Green Mountains. One of our scenic drive books says this route should take about 5 hours and 3 days later we've just finished it. Guess all those side roads and stops for fall color photos add a bit of time to it :) It's amazing to see the mountainsides full of fall color. We aren't seeing a lot of the really bright popping reds but the volume of color is incredible. Nothing like we see in the NW. The first day and a half we...

Sep 9, 2010 - Burlington, Vermont
We got up early today, the weather was great, nice blue skies and lots of sun. We had breakfast at the Killington Motel, made by the owner Stephen. He made fantastic blueberry pancakes, a secret recipe of his grandmothers. We chatted to him about his motel before heading off for Burlington. We saw lots of hay sculptures in Killington. We drove through Woodstock and stopped off to have a look inside the Woodstock Inn and Resort. This fancy hotel was built jointly by Billings/Marsh/Rockafeller and was real posh, way out of our league. To the...
