Jul 31, 2005 - Salt Lake City, UT

We're in Salt Lake City now, and will be here until Tuesday. We're having a problem with the levelers - motor burnt out or something - so we can't disconnect the truck from the 5th-wheel. I'm having someone come out tomorrow to check it out for us. The park we're in (our first KOA) is really nice, fortunately. We're in a paved pull-through that was easy to get into, and there's grass in between the sites. There's a great trail that runs along a river (more like a creek, but apparently it's the Jordan River) behind the park and it's great...

Apr 4, 2005 - Salt Lake - city of freaks!

We picked up our new stead in Denver and headed through Wyoming to Utah for some more boarding in Salt Lake City. Arriving in SLC we checked into the hostel Mr P had previously stayed in with his friend Keiran. It was a dump!! Mr P was a little un-nerved to be given exactly the same room as he had last time he stayed. Mrs P, trying to remain enthusiastic, took some comfort in being reassured the place had been done up since Mr P was last there. No word of a lie every weirdo in the state must have been living there. There was not a single...

Soapdodgers On Tour

Dec 13, 2004 - Salt Lake City

Hi all Another 2 days of travelling via Boise, Idaho saw us arrive in Salt Lake City - Mormen headquarters. After getting lost due to the relatively complex street grid system and naming (154 West 600 South Street?? - what is that), we found our hotel and crashed early. We tried to book a city tour in the morning and afternoon but being off-season, they didn't have the 6 person minimum. We decided it wasn't worth going to see the Great Salt Lake as we wouldn't have been able to swim in it as it was so cold. We wandered into town in the...

Zimbo's in America

Oct 21, 2004 - To New York.

In a change from the original plan we flew to New York today via Salt Lake City. We had to check in at 4am for the 6.15 flight to SLC. It wasn't the best flight, but there was a good sunrise from the plane, and as we came in to the city we had good views of the Salt Lakes. We weren't on the ground long after the 2 hour flight before we were on the flight to New York. This flight was better and we had 80 Days around the World to watch with Steve Coogan and Jackie Chan which was a fun film. We stayed at the Best Western JFK for the night as...

Jul 3, 2002 - Salt Lake City

Salt Lake City is, (to borrow a phrase from Cathy Bowles), like a city "with its hair on fire"! Every road is torn up, signs make little sense, every block is under construction, and the locals are very weary of the confusion -- and it is a year and a half til the Olympics. We are lucky to be here on a holiday weekend, as they have patched things up a bit for the celebration - we hear chaos reigns during the week. We toured Temple Square with the aid of two young "sisters" on their Mormon mission. Phil was more interested in learning about...
