Jul 14, 2016 - Day trip

We traveled north of Panguitch for a day trip today with our neighbors. This area is huge for ATV riders. There is over a thousand miles of trails among the mountains. Every campground was full with ATVS everywhere. There are the small ones that are similar to a motorcycle with handlebars all the way up to big ones that seat 6 people and are more like jeeps. Our first stop was Hoover's-- their motto is "This is Hoover's, not Hooters". We went in to the cafe to view it's oddities hanging from the ceiling and all over the walls. It was a...

Apr 10, 2016 - Richfield, UT

A beautiful morning to take off on US 89 north to I-70/US 89 to Richfield, UT where we stayed at the Richfield KOA, This route splits Zion and Bryce Canyons and very colorful hillsides and canyons opening out into rich green meadows and fields. A drive I would recommend to anyone and one I would certainly do again. This RV park was small, but had a very nice setting. We would stay here again. We were beginning to get a little tired of running day after day and we are still a long way from home.

Winter 2016

Jun 4, 2013 - Overnight In Utah

From Richfield KOA Kampground – Richfield, UT Left Vegas early this morning since we were returning to Mountain Standard Time and would lose an hour in route………pulled out of Sam’s at 7:30 a.m.! Our route took us 292 miles on Interstate Highways the entire trip….…….I15 and I70 mostly Northeast. For sure, we did not get good fuel mileage today as just out of Vegas we saw signage stating we were at 2,000 foot elevation and around Beaver, UT we had reached an elevation of 7,160 feet………this calculates to us climbing almost a mile in altitude...

Home Sweet RV - 2013

Nov 23, 2012 - Elks Lodge in Richfield, Utah

After a week in Bountiful, we turned our noses south on I-15 toward our winter destination in Arizona. Yesterday we had our Thanksgiving Dinner at home. Bev had picked up a nasty cold in her travels up to Seattle and was down for the count. The previous day, we had picked up a lot of things from Costco for our little feast. I made the dressing and all the rest of the items for the meal just needed to be staged for time in the oven or microwave. By the time the meal was ready, Bev was beginning to feel better, maybe having someone else...

Dream On

Sep 17, 2012 - Red Rock, Red Trees

The feel of fall was definitely in the air this morning as we left Provo and headed east. As we climbed up a pass, the tops of the hills were covered with trees all decked out in various shades of reds and golds. It was beautiful and we were happy to get to see some fall color. -- We picked up Highway 89 and turned south and traveled through gorgeous farm country with fields of alfalfa, cattle and some pretty amazing ranch homes. These ranchers look to be doing pretty good with their big damn houses, big damn ranches and big damn herds of...

Pretty Damn Nice!

Jul 1, 2012 - Time to Get Home!

After yesterday, I want to get home! We left North Las Vegas to head up to Utah's Bryce Canyon. John wanted to see it again. Utah has such interesting and beautiful and DRAMATIC sites. As we drove out of one of the view point's parking lot, our car quit running - right in the middle of the road. Several people stopped to try to help us and finally 4 able-bodied ones were able to push our car back to the exit of the parking lot. After letting it set for a while (and many attempts to try to start it), it finally started and kept running. I...

Washington

Oct 6, 2011 - Richfield, Utah

Hi everyone: Sorry I haven't written in a few days. We figured since we were in Las Vegas, you all would know we were busy. We left Las Vegas today around 11 AM and headed towards Denver, which is over 700 miles away. It rained yesterday in Vegas and today it was 59 when we left. The sun was out and it was supposed to get warmer. We drove north on rt. 15. Once we got into Utah, we checked out the Zion National Park and decided it was too close to pass up. It was the right decision! The park is unbelievable. But it started to rain the minute...

Aug 7, 2011 - Day 7 Richfield, Ut

Arrived at Arches National Park at 7:30. The rock formations are amazing. At Windows Arch we took the complete loop which was a mile hike. Went back so we could climb up into the Arch. Turret Arch was in the same area. Checked out Double Arch, half a mile hike but did not climb, wasn't sure I could get back down. Delicate Arch Viewpoint we opted to take the half mile hike, most of which was going up. We left Arches about 11am and headed toward Richfield,UT. On the way we stopped at Green River for lunch. We made a wise choice, when we got...

Apr 29, 2011 - Arches Nat'l Pk & Capitol Reef Nat'l Pk

Today was quite a day - we toured Arches National Park this morning. It was quite windy and a little chilly, but well worth it. Our favorite part was a 3 mile round-trip hike up to the Delicate Arch. The hike required an elevation gain of 480 feet with some exposure to heights. I've found it works best to just look straight ahead when on narrow, high paths. From that park we travelled over to the nearby Capitol Reef National Park. It was an incredible place with huge, towering monoliths, orchards in the valley, and a beautiful river that...

Dec 30, 2010 - Icy roads, blowing snow and construction

Hit the road this morning. Travel speeds were between 20 and 55 mph depending on road conditions. Some sections were a sheet of ice, and other areas were clear and dry. Lots of vehicles in the ditches. Stopped for the night in Richfield, UT. Should make it to Vegas tomorrow for New Years Eve if there is not much snow tonight. 240 miles today - total 1070 (1722 km)

Our travels

Nov 14, 2010 - From Moab to Richfield, UT

Sunday, November 14, we traveled from Moab to Richfield, UT which is not too far from Bryce Canyon which we plan to visit tomorrow. We started by taking a scenic drive from Moab that followed the Colorado River through the gorge. Our pictures illustrate what a good choice this was. Along the way we came upon Red Cliff Lodge which is the sight that a lot of Western and other Hollywood Movies (120 movies from 1925, such as 1939 Stagecoach, 1948 Fort Apache, 1963 Greatest Story Ever Told, 1981 Legend of the Lone Ranger, 1983 National Lampoon's...

Wagons Westward Ho

Oct 7, 2010 - Richfield, Utah

We left Moab this morning by 10:45, we weren't in a big hurry. I slept in a little bit as I drove home from Salt Lake City last night. I flew back to Sioux City, so I could be there when my dad underwent surgery. Anyhow, we didn't drive too far today, just about 150 miles and we stayed at the Flying J in Richfield. This place was packed full of truckers and RV's. It was a good thing we got there relatively early. While there, we went grocery shopping, and out to dinner at R&R Frontier Village, a nice local place; Rick ate some Fish 'n Chips...
