Jun 4, 2010 - Utah Lake State Park UT

The drive to Utah Lake State Park was about 42 miles. We decided on the Provo area because we found out that June 5 was a "free fishing day" in Utah. We could fish without buying a license. We didn't do any fishing at Jordonelle because we noticed no one was catching anything. We didn't want to buy a license for nothing. June 5 the Park was packed. They had a festival in addition to all the regular locals bringing in their boats. The Park has two jetties for fishing. Luckily there was one small shade tree available when we went out to fish...

Jun 3, 2010 - Visiting with Family

We have continued visiting with the Nelsons here in Provo. Last night, we joined them for dinner at their home. We were treated to a preview of Spencer in his band uniform. He has been preparing all week for a band concert this weekend in Moab. The Nelson kids are all smart and talented in different ways. For instance, Erika plays the piano beautifully. Ryan is into Stuff. -- Today, Shannon played tour guide and showed us around Brigham Young University. It is a spectacular campus: very large, and very beautiful. Greg works at the Library...

Pretty Damn Nice!

Jun 1, 2010 - Provo, Utah

This morning, we finished our trek to Provo. We are just on the edge of a cold front that is hitting the northern part of Utah so the sky was overcast and we have had showers off and on most of the day. We traveled through more beautiful green valleys and farm country again. -- Tonight we are staying at the Riverside RV and Campground in Provo which is about a half a mile from Utah Lake; however, we cannot see the lake from the park. There is grass and a lot of big trees, but this isn't my favorite park, mostly because the sites are so...

Apr 28, 2010 - Run South

Idaho to Utah Wow, what a wild ride we had getting to southern Utah. We left our camp in Fruitland heading south. After studying Accuweather in great detail, it is obvious to us that winter is not letting hold of the Northwest. Time to turn the key. We are going south to warm up. We pay attention to the wind alerts. They have been very accurate and we depend on the info. Because of our weather watch, we hung in Jackpot, Nevada for a day rather than moving on as planned. This was a smart move on our part. Some of the rigs coming in during...

Apr 26, 2010 - A Day in Provo, UT

We have learned that we do not like driving much more than 150 miles in a day. That doesn't sound like a lot, but it is when you are driving a 38' motorhome, towing a car and riding on unfamiliar highways, some over mountains and through passes. We decided to break up our trip from Brigham City in northern Utah to Moab in Southeastern Utah by stopping in Provo overnight. Provo is a city of over 100,000 and is the home of Brigham Young University. It is on I 15 that runs north and south through Salt Lake City and sits right up against the...

Oct 4, 2009 - Snow, Snow & More Snow Oct 3?

Hi Everyone, I can't believe I just typed a long journal entry about the last 2 days of traveling in the SNOW and I just lost all that I typed..............YUK and DOUBLE YUK. I will figure this out eventually, but for now I am going to call it quits for the night as I figure I am batting ZERO with the weather AND this journal. So good night my loved ones and I will try to do a better journal entry tomorrow. Love you all. Mom & Dad (alias Denise and Dave to some)...

Sep 25, 2009 - NV to UT via the lonely road.

Week 18 Sept 25: Leaving Ely, NV to get to the Great Basin NP was easy. Ely is the last town in NV before arriving at the Great Basin NP, only 68 miles away. Yes, the temp was 37 F, but the sun did its thing, warming the air so I did not need my electrics, just layers. The T-Clock check on my bike had too much air pressure in the tires. I had to deflate them to specs. The air density differs according to elevation, and I am high! The air does get thinner the higher you go, so I must have had sea level air when I last checked the tire...

Sep 20, 2009 - Last day in Provo

We did a different canyon drive today! It was in the 70's a bright blue sky and just all around NICE! We got up to almost 9000' (pretty high)...(of course we were still on a high from last night)! We went to Sundance which is a ski area in the winter. They did have rides to the top with mountain biking down. Beautiful grounds that was originally developed by Robert Redford. We continued on the Canyon Road and took a side trip to the Cascade Springs. It was amazing the water coming down and ending in pools at the bottom..There is so much to...

Sep 19, 2009 - Go SEMINOLES!!!

It is all about the Seminoles today....What a game!!! We went down to the stadium about three hours early and what a surprise. All the BYU fans were SO nice and a lot of them welcomed us to Provo and to BYU...We sat on a grassy hillside and talked with some FSU fans as well..the weather was perfect...We were able to get close to the team and coaches -could even high 5 them- more so than at FSU so that was really neat. The field was awesome with the mountains as a backdrop for the stadium...We sat right above the FSU boosters but we were...

Sep 17, 2009 - Provo in a day!

What an interesting day we had...from the beautiful campus at BYU to the top of the summit at over 9,000 feet. We started up Canyon Road and saw many waterfalls but Bridal was the best. As we got off road (4 wheeling) it seemed like the same ole - same ole until 5 elk ran across the road right in front of us....Mind you, had we of been a few seconds sooner those girls would have been into the side of my door and in my lap...I am thinking they were spooked...can you say HUNTING SEASON!!! Then further UP (and I mean UP) we were blocked by so...

Sep 16, 2009 - Longest day....

I was told this was the "longest day" of travel...almost 500 miles today...I did some reading, exercising and even practiced my Zumba...we were really rocking and rolling down the road!!! The scenery was the same for about 499 miles....pretty boring...BUT...we found the best campground yet...We have the best view in the entire campground...We are settled in now for about 4 days hoping to find some FSU vs BYU tickets for Saturday's game...GO NOLES!!
