Jun 18, 2016 - Not a fun day

There is a saying...Murphy's Law..."If something can go wrong, it will"...also, another law, who knows this one's name...but it says "Murphy was an optimist". Well, that was today...all day long. We hooked up the RV ..actually, John hooked up the RV, but there was something not going right, so he hooked it up twice. Felt satisfied and we took off. Left the Campground, waving to others as we drove away. We got about 6-7 miles on a 50 mph road when we came to a light. John stopped, of course and as he took off..BANG..and we were jolted, like...

Apr 25, 2012 - Nephi, UT

Wed, 25 Apr: Well, our travel decision was made for us by some not-too-pretty weather forecasts for Bryce Canyon National Park. The spring storm blowing in from California was predicted to dump from 4" to 8" of snow in the Bryce Canyon area. The rangers said it was "no big deal", but we're pretty conservative and would prefer not to drive our coach up and down those mountain passes on wet roads. So, we decided to head "down the hill" somewhat and find a place where the forecast was for rain without the snow component. We could have driven...

Oct 18, 2010 - Change of plans, Big sign, NP to the West

Some you might find the following details of my shower on Saturday humorous, a clean story, it has taken a couple of days for me to get over the incident. When I checked into the RV Park in Dillon, MT, the lady informed me that the water at the trailer site was already turned off expecting winter to arrive any day. She mentioned that their showers had plenty of water and it was hot. I decided to walk over to the showers after it got dark, that way I could shower and put on my PJ. I locked the trailer, remembering to take the key and head...

Sep 28, 2010 - Nephi, UT

September 28 We are making progress on our trek t o Albuquerque and the Balloon Festival. After leaving Pendleton, we headed southeast on our way to the Craters of the Moon National Monument. It was too far to drive in one day, so stopped at a place called West Magic Reservoir. With our last experience with off the road, out of the way campgrounds, you would think my navigator would keep us on the straight and narrow. (of course I did!) She did keep us on the narrow, practically a cow path, out to a campground known only by the locals....

Apr 26, 2010 - Overnight in Nephi

After Mesquite, I drove 45 minutes north to St. George, Utah where I met friends Lyle & Judy Wood at the Wal-Mart parking lot. There going to pick me up for breakfast. Lyle & Judy were the next door camphosts are first year at Redfish and now manage campgrounds in Utah. From there I made it to my goal of Nephi, Utah just below Salt Lake City. It was there I encountered our first problem - the full wall slide would not go out. It was if there was no power. I called La Mesa RV and he said to make sure the bedroom door was latched as it has a...

Apr 3, 2009 - Homeward bound

Had a big day today! We left Sedona at about 8:30, and arrived at Nephi about ten hours later. In between we saw some great country, and some not-so-great weather. Anybody like me who has never seen a sand storm (up to today), can now think back to the last good old prairies ground blizzard they saw. Raise the ambient temperature to 50 F or so, and change the color of the snow to blood red, and you have a sand storm just east of the Grand Canyon. Thought the sand would remove the paint from the drivers side of my truck. The sand really does...

May 24, 2007 - Las Vegas, NV to Nephi, UT

As usual, I fed Socks and me, walked Socks, and then made a pot of coffee. I checked email and the blog site, then called my long time friend Nancy to find out if she was a great grandmother yet. She advised that her granddaughter was in labor as we spoke. We agreed that if the baby came today, I would drive in to Oakley tomorrow. If not, I'd stay put until it was convenient to visit. So I decided to drive to Nephi, UT and chill out until I could go to Oakley, UT. I got the coach ready for travel. I also took the opportunity to fill my...
