Jul 22, 2010 - Summer Thunder storms in Fairview, Utah

Our route took a back-road turn Sunday morning as neither one of us wanted to see I-80 and the Great Salt Lake just now. When we reached Wells, we turned south and drove 200 miles to the Border Inn RV Park on the NV-UT border. The trip was great, new scenery and a quick stop in Ely to tour the local train museum. The displays are interesting, including a working steam engine for local rides. Ely appears to be a thriving town in the high desert. We chose to move on, pushing for our 200 miles for the travel day. The Border Inn is not a spot...

Montpelier Idaho to Fairview Utah 304 miles (total trip miles 2,641) After the late night doing laundry and trying to catch up on this blog I thought we would sleep later than we did, Got up around 7:00 and went and had a home cooked breakfast the hotel was serving. Jun 18, 2009 - Over the mountain on Utah's rte 31

After leaving Moab, we drove north in Utah and the terrain started to change from rock to trees...mostly a mixture of both. Then our GyPSy took us onto Rte 31, which crossed the mountain to our next campground between Pleasantview and Fairview...both very small communities. The route turned out to be another beautiful, scenic drive, which really did remind us of Alaska. It was quite desolate...except for an occasional car and the few fishermen that we passed.
