August 14, 2008 – Thursday: Another travel day. We left Ogden and after skirting SLC on the east, we picked up US 40 to Duchesne, UT (doo SHAYN). We drove through a gap in mountains that are at least three times as high as what we see in the Appalachians. The river flows through the valley between the mountains. At one point, the road split and it was on both sides of the river and the canyon because there was not enough space to put all 4 lanes on one side of it. The railroad hade tunnels, but they just blasted the mountain away to build...
