May 21, 2013 - Palo Duro Canyon to Wichita Falls (Texas)

We awoke to a very dark sky this morning . We were headed out of Palo Duro Canyon at 8:00. Aren't you all (not ya'll) surprised at how early I've been getting up on this trip??!! We wanted to get packed up and on the road before it started raining. I had 2 messages on my cell and I just knew they were from Mom and Ingrid, and yes they were. They were both very concerned about us because of the tornadoes. I called them both back to assure then we were OK. Wichita Falls was SE of where we were and the sky looked much better in that direction...

Nov 26, 2012 - Headed west

We left The Colony, TX after lunch at Le Madeleine and started up 287 toward Amarillo,TX. Jim noticed a unique building from the highway and did a Uturn. We took a few minutes to check out the courthouse in Decatur. Built in 1895, it is octagonal and beautiful inside and out. We then checked out a few antique stores and headed for El Castile down Main St. Built by a cattle baron in 1883, it is still privately owned. Historic Decatur Staying at the Wichita Falls RV Park. Very nice!

Sep 29, 2012 - Rain!

Sept. 29, 2012 It started raining about 2 am and didn't stop. It wasn't a hard rain, but was steady. As we left Caprock Canyon State Park, we saw buffalo right beside the road. Olivia was fascinated and got a really good look. They were eating grass and making noises to each other. We stopped for the night at Wichita Falls for a hotel room for Olivia to have some place to run and move around. Since we will be delivering Olivia home tomorrow, our trip is basically done. We will be arriving home in a couple of days. So, this will be my last...

Summer Trip 2012

Aug 27, 2012 - Wichita Falls, TX

Monday morning, we headed out for a 4 hour drive from Amarillo to Wichita Falls, TX. The drive was entirely on US 287. We drove through a lot of small towns again and lots of ranching country. We’re staying at Coyote Ranch RV Resort and it’s actually part of a larger ranch here in Wichita Falls. The RV park is very large and spacious, which is nice and there are also several cabins and large buildings for events like family reunions. When we pulled into the entrance, we saw 4 ponies in the pasture. Boy, were they cute! After setting up at...

Apr 21, 2012 - The Trip to Wichita Falls, TX

4/21/2012 We got a late start today, we were up late last night. The time changes are starting to catch up to us, and we had another one today. We will be stopping for 3 nights so hopefully we will catch up to the changes. We deviated from a straight path today so we could stop and see Cadillac Ranch just outside of Amarillo, TX. Some rich guy wanted a piece of public art that would baffle the locals, so he hired some hippies to come up with the idea. Today you can stop and apply your own graffiti! If you want to read more about it, check...

Mar 9, 2012 - Spring break

Left home about 1:00, pulling our new Open Range fifth wheel, picked Kaylin up from school and drove to to Wichita Falls. Stopped at WFRV park for the night. We saw a low flying military jet north of Childress. Suspect he was doing below the radar maneuvers. Arrived at RV park about 15 to 6. Went and ate at Logan's Roadhouse. Then went to Walmart . That's a tradition. Go someplace then go to Walmart to pickup the stuff you forgot. The weather was good. Was supposed to snow but so far haven't seen any. Expecting rain in Denton where we are...

Nov 12, 2011 - Wichita Falls, Texas

Not much to comment on for the trip from Amarillo to Wichita Falls. Nice day and it's getting warmer as we travel south and our elevation decreases. Coming into the city we found a Texas Tourist Info booth so we stopped and picked up a pile of books, brochures and maps to help us work our way through Texas. The attendants in the tourist info place were really helpful, we got the back story on Texas. European conquistadors (explorers) first arrived in the region now known as Texas in 1519, finding the region populated by various Native...

On The Road Again!

Oct 16, 2011 - Dallas to Amarillo

Left Sydney 2½ hours late due to maintenance, arrived 2 hours late – flight OK despite being in cattle class – seems to us that each flight has more premium economy and less ordinary economy. Lynn had a beautiful fish dinner that she really enjoyed – sorry the same could not be said for the breakfast before we arrived in Dallas. We both managed to sleep a few hours on the flight and both watched the latest Pirates of the Caribbean then Lynn watched Arthur and David watched Senna. On arrival in Dallas we found our way to the rental car area...

Jul 6, 2011 - Texas State Trooper

We woke up at 8:47AM, we did get a solid 5 hours of sleep. We quickly showered, packed our things, had a quick bite to eat and some coffee. We were on the road by 10AM. Well, so much for the boys not fighting, they have had pillow fights, wrestling fights, and then Austin bit Brycen's pillow and so Brycen got mad because he did not want Austin's slobber on his pillow. So, of course Brycen had to pay him back by biting Austin's pillow and really slobbering on it. GOOD TIMES! In the mean time Tom is quietly minding his own business and...

Apr 23, 2011 - Wow Texas goes on and on and on!!

Well another 300 plus mile day today. Our day started at 6 am when I went for a walk but didn’t walk much more than a mile as the wind was almost blowing me off my feet. Last night we had dinner at a local catfish restaurant, so I figured that I needed to get out and walk off some of those delicious calories that must have found their way to my mid-section. ☺ We were on the road by 8 am but the route that we took (the 69) although very interesting certainly was not the fastest. Too many traffic lights …. But that certainly broke the...
