Site of Signing of Texas Declaration of Independence. If you are ever in this part of Texas, this is a must see. The title refers to a small town called Washington, which had sprung up during the mid-1830’s, around a ferry landing next to the Brazos River, and was General Sam Houston’s headquarters in 1835. Today, this has become a significant State Historic Site, featuring a Visitor Center, Independence Hall, Star of the Republic Museum and the Barrington Living History Farm.
