May 20, 2013 - Move to Waco
Decided to move on to Waco, making an easy trip of about 2 hours and found an even more beautiful COE park at the Airport. Yogi had lots of grass and a tree to enjoy. It was less rugged again with a breezy clear lake and made us feel even more “at home” with manicured grass and not many people around. Lots of breeze from the lake with a pebble beach which Yogi loved to explore…but don’t get my feet wet! Stopped at Waco because of the association with Oklahoma City, Terry Nichols being angered by the David Koresh Branch Dividian Army...

Apr 18, 2013 - Cen-Tex Campout at Waco
THURSDAY This morning I woke up an hour earlier than I usually get up, so I was on the road to Waco by 9:00. I forgot that commuter traffic would still be heavy at that time of day but I went on anyway. A cold front arrived around 8:00 and it was sprinkling as I was unhooking from the utilities. Shortly after I left Austin it started raining very hard – so hard, in fact, that I couldn’t see more than about fifty yards ahead. I was driving a lot slower than normal and so was everyone else. The front had passed through by the time I arrived...

Aug 31, 2012 - Waco, TX
We had an uneventful drive from Wichita Falls to Waco which took about 4 hours. In Waco we’re less than 2 hours from home, but we like to stay there overnight, so we can get home early in the day to unpack before the heat of the day. Once we got off the freeway in Waco, our route took us through Baylor University’s campus and things looked like they were starting to get busy with the start of the new school year. We stayed in this RV park in Waco last year too. It’s in a very rural part of the town and extremely quiet, which is unusual for...

Aug 15, 2012 - Leaving Town, After Touring The Dr. Pepper Musuem
We are finally hitting the road again, but not before we visited the Dr.Pepper Musuem, the actual original building with the well that they used for it's artesian water. We parked on the street, walked over to the building, paid our admission fee, and saw the movie, and walked through, seeing early bottling machines, history of bottles used, including bootlegged bottles, the desk of W.W Foots Clements, who started as a route driver, and worked his way up to Chairman, and CEO, of the company. The well was lost over the years and as a...

Aug 14, 2012 - Grand Lodge of Texas
As some of you might know, I'm a Master Mason, affiliated with Doric Lodge 140, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and a Noble at, the Mahi Shrine Temple in Miami, Florida One of my reasons going through Texas by my route was to get to see the Grand Lodge of Texas, along with The Texas Ranger Museum. I was not prepared for the visit to the Lodge, by it's scope, HUGE, by what is actually stored there, and again the size of the Lodge room, which holds over 20,000+ once a year at annual meeting. We, Marianne and myself, were given an escorted tour,...

Aug 14, 2012 - Leaving Kemah
Today we left for our next assignment in Las Vegas, Nevada. We have until the 23rd to get there, so we are taking a few side trips. Our first stop in Waco, TX. It was about 245 miles, so no very big trip, but I decided to take back country roads, to see more of Texas. Easy ride, leaving late we got to our first destination, late, The Texas Ranger Museum. Finding that they were only open to 4:30, and missing the in house movie, we opted after asking, to stay in their large parking lot. Safety was no problem, because at the rear of the museum,...

Aug 14, 2012 - Texas Ranger Musuem
Today we tourned the musuem, learning that the rangers started as land surveyors, who while doing the job of mapping the frontier, also had to be efficient and good with a gun. There were many troubles with ranchers and farmers, over land rights, etc. Over a period of time they strictly became peace officers, and left surveying to other. The musuem, was quite extensive and took over 5 hours to see almost all of the exhibits, including a dedication to The Lone Ranger, which is a true story. I have included a great many of the guns used by...

Jul 30, 2012 - A Visit to Waco
Change of plans. We decided to stay at Treetops for another day. If you stay 6 days, you get the 7th free. Since we were here for 6, we decided to take our free day. With the extra day we drove to Waco to visit the Texas Rangers Hall of Fame and Museum. It was well worth the drive. The story of the Texas Rangers is interesting. To be honest the only thing I know about the Rangers is what I learned from the Lone Ranger and Walker, Texas Ranger. Between an excellent documentary produced by the History Channel and the exhibits, we learned a...

Jun 3, 2012 - Dripping Springs to Waco, TX
Patti prepared a wonderful brunch of lox, bagels, cream cheese, fruit, yogurt, zuchinni bread and fresh tomatoes/onions from the garden. Again there was no lack of conversation. All of the dogs had settled down although Pepper “acted out” yesterday by peeing on an indoor planter although he had been here for two days. Patti and Phil were still very gracious! We left about 11:00 for Waco. Was not much traffic on 35 through Austin because it was Sunday morning. By luck, our camp is out in the country but very near the road to the Baylor...

Wednesday, May 9 Midway Corps of Engineer Park in Waco A beautiful morning in Waco, TX today…it is 60 degrees and sunny, but not humid yet! May 5, 2012 - The Last Lake-For Now
Last Saturday we arrived at our last lake on this trip, Lake Waco. It is a lovely lake but the first part of the stay it was very windy and so of course the lake has been very, very rough! Not much in the way of fishing was being done by the Rickster the first part of the week. Before we left Lake Proctor we had received a message, through the Escapees Forum, from Don and Suzanne. They told us they were also at Lake Waco and were hoping to be able to meet us. We answered back that that sounded wonderful. We had just pulled in to our...

Apr 26, 2012 - Waco, Texas
Wed 4/25 Hey – do you realize April is almost gone!? Hmmm! Moving day again! Today - 80 miles and 11.4 mpg up to Waco. It was around 50 miles on secondary and 30 miles on I-35. We arrived at the Riverview Campground on Riverview Road in the early afternoon. This is a very nice campground. It is about 3 miles off the “Loop Road” which is fine with us – it is very quiet. No trains!! And no traffic noise. $28/night for 50 amp. By the way, you can get a discount (10-15%) in some Texas parks by using the discount cards found in the Texas RV...
